07 Jul Turning Heads #Linkup: Happy Birthday-Gibby and Me
Happy Tuesday. Well, you know why this day is special to me, of course, it is seeing you all and your outfits. But July 7th is even more important as it is my boy’s birthday. Let me clarify, my furboy, furbaby, little bear, , red-headed-teddy-bear-shih-tzu-pup named Gibson.
Gibby’s Birthday is today, he is 4 years old. To me, he goes by many nicknames, and responds to them too. I call him G-bear, Gibby bear, Teddy Bear, Gib-Gib, Gibby, Angel Bear and Gibson.( Gibson sometimes only when I am a bit mad: “Gibson Jannenga!! Come here and pick up your ball!”
I imagine by now you all know I have 2 little special fur babies. Truffles, my little princess-can’t-get-my-paws-wet, gotta have the special food, gentle and quiet kind of girl. Going through many chocolate names when she was a pup, we decided on Truffles and it suits her. Gibby is named after my Gibson jazz guitar. He fits it to a t as well.
You may know this as well, but my Ehlers Danlos illness began 8 years ago, read here, and prior to it, I had begged for a puppy. Growing up, I always had dogs. I have a strong affection for dogs and always wanted one. My hubby has allergies, so, he only considered if it was a hypoallergenic dog. I remember my best friend’s pup growing up, Saint, another shih tzu, how laid back, mellow, low maintenance he was, and he did not shed. So, after much pleading, we decided it was time! Fast forward, and 2 years after getting Truffles, we decided to get Gibby as her playmate . The breeder was from Asheville, a short drive, and we found Gibson as I looked at the red-headed fluffy puff-ball on the website and talked to the breeder. It was love at first sight, so we picked him up shortly thereafter.
Gibby has a great personality. He and I are very much alike. ( Ok, not so much into fashion) but he is outgoing, tries to get to know other dogs and scopes them out first, to let Truffles know its ok. Pure boy. Will get into the little trash cans in the bathroom to see if there is anything he can rip or chew on.He is playful, loves to get into the crouch down stance where he knows I will chase him around the room. He enjoys my songs. I sing to both of my pups and make up jingles ( goofy improvised songs that make my hubby laugh) and I have a captive audience, as he sits on the edge of the bed, paws spread out in front, intently listening. Who needs Broadway?
He is my shadow. I will sing “Me and my Shadow” to him, as he follows me everywhere, always a step behind. He will hang out while I take my bath, just resting on my robe, or any other clothes in piles, as long as they are my clothes. My pups mean the world to me. Yes, I am the crazy lady that talks and sings to her puppies, but hey, why not?
I could go on, but I know there is a link up we do today, but I hope you read between the lines in knowing just how much my pups mean to me. I do feel that this is the one thing that is the best thing that came out of my illness: my two little loves They mean the world to me. My husband knew that they would be a comfort to me when I was having bad days, help me keep my mind off of pain, and just bring me joy.
So, as Gibby turns 4 today.. tomorrow I will be having my Birthday as well. 47 years on this earth! We will be celebrating it this week or next, as I requested instead of dinner, that we get some gourmet food, wine, wear our bathing suits, bring the pups and rent a boat to take out on Lake Norman for the day. I am so excited! I always enjoy the view, and have been dying to dive into that lake in these temps.

I HAD to get this “Birthday Boy” button for him as I didn’t know how long he would wear the hat! He did so well!
