Turning Heads #Linkup: OTK boots + Vintage Leopard Swing Coat

IMG_0239

Hello Ladies!

So here were are at 2016, and what I feel to be the slowest time of the year. I do though enjoy the cold, bundling at night with the pups in their little round fur balls, or lying by the fireplace with hot cocoa in hand. This is about the time I may actually be able to wear my winter coat out, and realize that perhaps I don’t need 3 or 4 coats here in Charlotte, because it only gets cold enough for one maybe 2 months out of the year. Only a few weeks ago was it almost 70 degrees, but has now dipped to about 50. I soon hope to share with you my vintage inspired Boden pink coat, as it is finally getting cold enough. My closet has more leather jackets than wool coats due to this climate, but I could not resist this vintage swing coat in leopard.

Glad you are all  back after the Holidays. I hope everyone had enjoyed spending time with family, friends and if you took time off from your blog, time to recharge! I took the week off of Christmas, and it was nice to just enjoy being with my family and relax a bit more. It also gives me a fresh start for the New Year, and helped me think of some blog goals I want to consider. I know with the New Year, many people begin to think of health, exercise, etc, but I feel it should not only happen on a once a year basis! I don’t set goals like that, I try to assess what will improve my status with EDS, so I am weight lifting, swimming, and  walking. With the blog, I hope to have more topics added, Shopping on a Budget, Splurge or Save, Ways to Wear.. etc, and continue to do more Interviews with my Over 40 friends! I wish to share with you a bit more about me personally, and next week will devote a post to that. Some things about me may surprise you! Ex. I met my husband Rock Climbing. 🙂 I figured if I had to depend on him for my safety, I need to get to know him, and I better not tick him off!

At Christmas, I figured, I must have been “nice”as Santa brought me some very nice gifts this year, many on my “wish list”. One of these items was another pair of Over the Knee boots. I have always loved these and I think they are great for making one’s legs look  longer. When it comes to boots, I like leather, or suede, boots are items I like to invest or not skimp on. Santa brought these Vince Camuto Baldwin chocolate-brown leather OTK boots for me Christmas day. The leather is beautiful and the boot substantial. Love em. Santa listened! I am wearing my vintage leopard swing coat, that was a STEAL for $25 as a bought it on Ebay. Nothing like a little vintage touch to add to something more modern to give it a fun, unique style.

The history of the Swing Jacket was interesting to me, as it was designed so that the dresses of the era fit comfortably under the jacket. From “Fashion History 101, ( site)”Dior confettied his now-infamous New Look upon the world in 1947, and girls everywhere began gussying up in impossibly full skirts. Such garments could hardly fit fashionably under the coats folks had previously worn, so a new form of outerwear was in order. Dior and a fellow designer Jacques Fath developed a full-skirt-friendly coat, the swing jacket, which fitted fast around the shoulders and trapezed out ambitiously to the knee.Like its cousin the trench, the swing coat has swayed into a variety of new forms with the passing of time. Swing jackets nowadays often fall at or above the waist, as seen with this classic J. Crew piece.”

One of the details, I loved wearing today, beside my cognac leather gloves and Obaku Denmark winter white elegant watch, is the little bear brooch with emerald eyes and moveable arms and legs. I HAD to get it, as the bear has a halo, and one of my many nicknames for Gibson, my shih tzu. I call him “Angel Bear”, as he is my angel and he looks like a teddy bear! So it has a sentimental meaning.

Outfit:Vince Camuto OTK boots, ( santa)  Ann Taylor Sweater dress, ( old but like this)Swing leopard jacket, ( vintage Ebay, like this and this )Louis Vuitton speedy, vintage angel bear pin ( etsy), earrings: boutique, c/o Obaku Denmark watch

    LOVE!!
Oh Jess, this is a stunner on you!
Your cosy jacket with the cropped sleeves…so elegant, and that cute brooch.
Your open knit tights with the OTK boots is a great combination.
I have just bitten the bullet and treated myself to some OTK boots….I have to admit to being a little scared of them.
But, we must keep pushing ourselves and evolving and having fun with fashion, mustn’t we?
Otherwise we end up looking dated and frumpy.
So thank you for being my joint inspiration…Ann from KrembedelaKrembe is another OTK wearer, a totally different look as well. You have both made me realise that they can be both bold and feminine and don’t need to look trashy or cliched.
I WILL wear them and they will perhaps end up my favourites??
    Who knows?
Thank you for being an inspiration.

This is a perfect outfit and really your style, Jess! You look fabulous.
I have similar leather boots although not OTK but regular ones. Our winter has been very mild without snow so far and I am more than happy about it! No snow shovelling and no warm and bulky snowboots and down coats.

    Happy New Year from Germany!
