Turning Heads Linkup-Packing Lightly for a Fall Getaway-My Trip to Taos, NM

elmonte2

Hello friends!

I am so excited!  Well, several days from now, we will be on our way to Taos, NM and will be staying  at the El Monte  Segrado Hotel, then off to Sante Fe for a few days. It is  within walking distance to restaurants, things to do, shops.  I am so excited to be going with my brother and sister in law, as we have wanted to take a trip together for awhile. I have never been there and look forward to seeing the historic sights, visiting the oldest vineyard, exploring the art in New Mexico, and at our hotel,  relaxing at the Internationally Award Winning “Living Spa” where my sis in law and I will relax with a Living Spa 90 min facial, pedicure and a wrap of some sort. I have actually never had a facial, so I am excited and ready to be pampered! Prior to having EDS my husband and I wanted to go to Italy, but at the time the Euro was quite expensive, then EDS reared it’s head, and the trip never happened. Taos will be a “test” to see how well I can sit for hours on a plane, walk around the city etc. I have always wanted to travel and see other cultures so this trip is long awaited.

lmonte2

The day we leave, the flight is very early, 6 am, so we are at the airport at 4:30 am! Jess doesn’t do early mornings! ha. I just imagine I will be taking my meds and falling asleep on the plane. If I can. I have a bit of a fear of flying, but things have improved over the years, certainly while I am in the sky. Here is the El Monte Segrado Hotel.   I am so excited!

I wanted to do a post on “Packing lightly for a fall trip” as I have always packed lightly and feel that it is unneccessary to pack so much when I am away, as mixing and matching and bringing clothes that are iron-free is practical. I can wear nice clothing, but if I wear the same outfit two days I am there, no one is going to stop me and tell me that! Comfortable shoes for sightseeing is crucial, a nice dress for dining out, and casual clothes for walking around the city is also the way I like to travel.

Just in case you missed yesterday’s post on Jambu footwear and one of the dresses I will be packing here is one pic. I am bringing this Karina dress to Taos, as it requires no ironing!  You can see the rest of the post at the linkup 🙂

Here is what I am bringing:

  • Toiletrees: I like to use hot rollers and a hairdryer for my hair, but they take up too much space. I bring a curling iron by Babybliss instead. Makeup  Dior Nude Air Foundation, YSL Primer, 1 Bobbi Brown eyeshadow palette, NARS cream blush, Lip palette MAC. Shampoo- Styling product-Soap-in 3 oz bottles per TSA.
  • Jewelry- Earrings-I wear a pair and bring a pair. I do not like to bring a lot of jewelry, as I usually will get something as a souvenoir and don’t want to lose any. Same with necklace.
  • Shoes” Sneakers for hike. Slip on wearing to airport. Block heel for dinner out. I can wear the slip ons as we walk around town. Only packing 2 pair.
  • Clothes: I wear a moto jacket on the plane, so I don’t have to pack another. Cargo pants with 2 tops. Floral dress for dinner, velvet shift  dress for going out/dinner , burgundy dressw/scarf ( wore on plane) Workout yoga clothes for hiking.

On the plane: Soft Jersey Knit dress, scarf, worn with black moto, later for lunch. change to black block heels.

Olive cargo pants, off the shoulder top, and slip ons. Leopard scarf. Casual dress for days of sightseeing/exploring.

Grant it, this cluster of clothes didn’t turn out quite like id want it, but you get the idea ;-)Black moto jacket is new ( not styled yet on the blog) as is my red velvet shift dress I am packing 🙂  Moto Jacket ( Mango) Velvet shift ( Zara) sold out ( love this)

I look forward to sharing with you my pictures from the trip and will be posting on INSTAGRAM. Follow me if you’d like to keep up with my adventure.   Let’s now have some #Turningheadstuesday Fun!

Have a wonderful trip dear Jess! It looks and sounds amazing, especially your trip to the spa – it’s not something I’ve done either, but does sound like real luxury. I’m so impressed with your capsule wardrobe. I always think I’m going to do that, then I add loads of “just in case” items too. Can’t wait to read all about it when you return. Thanks for the linkup party again x

I’m so jealous of you going to a spa and having those treatments. Well, you deserve it! I hope the plane journey isn’t too difficult for you Jess and wishing you the best of holidays.
Very organised at packing. I usually leave it to the last minute and regret that I didn’t get organised earlier but I guess with your 4.30am start (yikes!) you had to be.
    Have a wonderful time.

You are going to love Santa Fe! My husband and I went to NM a couple of years ago and fell in love with that state and it’s culture. It is so beautiful! Santa Fe feels like your in Europe…the architecture is amazing. It was one of my all-time favorite trips!

Sounds and looks like a wonderful get-away … I know the unknown can be scary – will I be tired from the travel? how much pain will this cause? will this set me back? how long will it take to recover when I get home? (it took me a long time, years after my accident to travel – something I so enjoyed- far away) … sending you lots of energy on the wings of angels to give you strength , endurance , so you may enjoy this trip with your loved ones. May this be the beginning of many more distant travel adventures for you my friend. Looks like you have packed some stylish and comfy outfits .. ENJOY!! <3

      Hi Celia,
What a lovely message! Thank you so much. Yes, you know what I was thinking. Those thoughts do go through my head, but I also just do the best I can. If I need to rest at the hotel and meet up with others lately, I do. I love that we are going with my brother and sis in law, and am ready to see somewhere new. Thank you again, I look forward to sharing pics! xx
