Turning Heads #Linkup-Steelers Colors: Black and Gold-A Tribute to Dad

IMG_6526

Hello Ladies

Welcome to Turning Heads Tuesday. I don’t wish to write a lot today, but wanted first to thank you for the support I received while away from the computer. My dad passed suddenly over 2 weeks ago ; so I , along with puppies and spouse in tow, went to Pittsburgh for the hardest time of  my life. My brothers and sister met us at mom’s house.

I want today just to share with you a few things to “celebrate” my Dad, he was an amazing person and I love him dearly. It is difficult to write. I HAD to dress in Black and GOLD today to wear this for my Dad. He was a Pittsburgh  Steelers Fan all of the way, and neighbors down the street could attest to this, as they would most likely hear him shout at the TV during a Pittsburgh Steelers’ Football Games.

Today I did not dress so much for myself, as black is somewhat stark or harsh on me without color, but I am dedicating this post to my Dad. I wore a black dress with a lace applique at the top, lace black tights, with black and gold accents on the bows of my Coach shoes, the thin bow belt around my waist, and the vintage gold brooch I wore the last week.  Both my watch and earrings are gold, and the one thing I am missing is a Terrible Towel ( Steelers fans know in which I am referring) that I could have tied around my neck as a scarf.

The black, gold leopard print clutch added more of the motif as well as added print. My Dad was proud of what I have been doing. He told me many times,” I think you found your niche.” I just have one or two funny stories to celebrate Dad, as he did have a great sense of humor ( could it be where I got mine?)

My siblings and I have a distinct memory of going to Disney World in the boat sized car, the Caprise Classic, when I was little. As I was the tallest one, I must have drawn the short straw, because I sat behind  dad who always had the seat pulled all the way back for his long legs. Being that the trip was 24 hours by car, as kids we listened to the cassette tape he prepared. Unfortunately, at the time, there were 3 songs played repeatedly in a loop for our “enjoyment.” The Clancy Brother’s tune, ( an Irish must!) , Air Supply’s “Making Love Out of Nothing at All”, and the constant refrain of Bob Seger’s Old Time Rock and Roll. As years went by, I finally caught on and bought a pair of earphones and Walkman ! A Great Memory.

Dad had a great memory for telling jokes and stories. He loved the movie Best in Show, and would ask us repeatedly, did you see the movie, Best in Show.? It became a joke as we would ask him if he had seen the movie each time we saw him. He would tell us stories, many times over, where all of us would say in chorus, “heard that”! It was just amusing and we would at times just humor dad by listening to a familiar tale.

We had so many memories to share, but it has been such a difficult time, the  last 2 weeks felt like 2 months. I wanted to honor my Dad today, by wearing his favorite team’s colors and hope I did it some justice.

Again

Thank you friends for your emails and prayers.

xo jess

What a wonderful post in honour of your dad, Jess! I am sure he would have loved it! My parents just both turned 80 and they are so proud of my achievements too. Since we live in the same town, I am glad to see them very often and don’t want to even think of what may happen some day… Much love to you!
