Turning Heads #linkup : Tips to Wearing a 50’s Pencil Dress

IMG_8254

Hello Ladies!

I am enjoying Asheville NC, and we have had some very nice days.I love the mountains.  We are staying at a house with the pups and this beautiful tree behind me is a Red Rocket, the red flowers are so gorgeous. I had to take the shots with this 50s-60s inspired large blooming floral dress I received for my birthday.

This wooden swing was just perfect as it added character and was a nice place to sit and read

One of my favorite details that makes me think of a vintage dress, is the back as well as the collar below.

Added a GIGI New York red clutch for the most prominent color.

I know many of you associate florals with me, for the spring/summer and yes, I absolutely have an affinity for them. I have changed things up quite a bit these last view months for variety, and just the willingness to try other fun looks.

Just in case you missed some of those non-floral  looks, check them out here ( all white look), Olive shirt dress, earth tones with slim cargo pants, here and heremaxi dress, among others here and  here. I plan on also wearing more jeans in the fall, and having fun styling them. As you know, the key for me, is comfort and softness in addition to fit. With Ehlers-Danlos, and nerve/muscle sensitivity I need clothes that are soft.

This dress, besides having the print and style I am in love with, is made of scuba material and from ASOS. I have about 4 or so dress made of this stretch knit and it is amazing. It is a fitted look, and meant to be a bodycon type, however, it does not fit or feel tight. The bright colors and collar really is what I love, in addition to the v-back. I can also see this transition into fall in many ways.

I truly believe any shape and size can wear a pencil dress: tips

  • If you are curvy, get the dress to fit your hips and have it tailored to fit the waist.
  • You don’t have to have an hourglass shape to wear a pencil dress, but fit is key.Too tight takes away from it’s elegance , in my opinion.
  • If you are worried about lumps and bumps, then find the perfect undergarments to wear underneath. Some women swear by Spanx.
  • If you are a bit busty, make sure the bottom portion of the dress does not cling to the lower leg or knee area to balance out the proportions.
  • Pick fabrics that are not too clingy, but just enough for your shape, this scuba fabric breathes and moves with you.
  • Wear it with confidence and have fun doing so!

As a busy mom working in a professional setting, I am always looking for items which easily convert from the office to our evening activities.  I love new clothes and will occasionally add something trendy but typically I look for items which can cross seasons as well as be worn for several years.  This J. Hi! ASOS is a great place to find dresses and they always have a sale. They are an International company and if you dont mind buying online I find a fair amount there. I am 5 foot 9 by the way. Their shipping is quick, and they have free return ship if it doesn’t fit. They also give you the height of the model I beleive. Thank you for the lovely compliment! xx

Florals is your signature look, you can’t go wrong with it. And the dress is beautiful. I love a fitted dress, but being a bit more curvy I need proper undergarments, and that is just way too hot in summer… Therefore, For me, fitted dresses are for winter and spring only.
