Turning Heads #Linkup-Wearing a Floral Retro Pencil Dress- Lilac and Peach with Block Heels

IMG_7099

Hello Ladies and Gents,

You all know me, at least most of my favorite styles by now. Yes, the floral fantastic profusion has begun! There may be an abundance of florals just ahead as the Spring season is here and the sun decides to emerge for more than a few hours. I do tend to wear many florals, maybe so much by some standards that they should be sprouting from my ears and  between my toes. But I can’t say no! Florals are trending now, but I was wearing them prior to the trend, just like to see that I fall in accordance to some trends. My mom is now visiting traveling back and forth from my sister’s house to ours, and I have discovered some pictures of when I began my love for florals. Looking through some pictures when I was younger, I was 10 and in a school presentation when I wore a blue floral dress I was quite in love with. Perhaps my obsession with florals began then.  I will have to share some of these images in upcoming posts.

In addition, as you know, I collect vintage  brooches. You will be seeing a myriad of  vintage brooches throughout the year, as I found a woman on Etsy, selling a small collection of vintage brooches from the 40s-50s she bought at an Estate sale. I was so excited! So,  here and there I will share my collection. Today, I am wearing one of the pieces, I believe she stated was from the 50’s  this pale pink silver flower on my lilac cardigan from Loft ( bought years ago). I wanted to pick up the lilac/purple shade from the dress and mix it with the more prominent peach. I love peach! ( both food and color!) What I love about vintage brooches is that each may tell a story or at least have a history behind them.

This dress is a  retro 60s inspired pencil dress, sleeveless with a v neck, in a scuba body conscious material. I loved it as soon as I saw it as the colors I thought were perfect with my complexion, as well as having  the retro vibe I love. With the cardi, it looks like a top and pencil skirt, you will later, in the summer see the dress styled styled other ways. I added my lilac leather Coach bag that I bought last year as the perfect finish to this look

My emerald green Modcloth block heels were chosen to add another bright color and to blend in with the floral theme. My ever present cat eye glasses from Zenni just make it even more fun for me to wear.  As we went to drop Mom off at my sister’s house, we stopped at a place called Waffles and Expresso. This was not your ordinary waffle! Belgium waffles with sugar throughout the batter, and crispy to taste, with a heaviness that left one full after 3/4 of the breakfast , was the kind I was talking about. I had such a craving for pancakes or waffles when we found this place. Add on fresh whipped cream and strawberries and to drink a cappachino and it was the perfect amount of sweetness! The day started off just right, and even though it was quite windy and chilly, I enjoyed taking out my first  floral dress of the season!

I don’t think that in your case, there is any such thing as “too much floral”. You look divine in these soft colours and floral prints…they really make- up your signature style.

Love your floral dress, pink cardi and teal shoes! Fabulous colors, and I adore that print. I have also been wearing florals for decades… I wore a floral dress for prom, when most girls were wearing pastel solids dresses. That was a few years ago, ahem… Happy spring!

Ahhhh…it’s a dress (I thought it was a skirt on instagram)—the colors are marvelous!
I really like the darker shoes with it (and, what older women doesn’t love the block heels?)(not that you’re old—-I’m referring to me–ha ha)
The funny thing, is I just bought a floral summer tunic and immediately thought of you—(Oh Jess would really like this). In my younger years I would have never been caught dead in something so “girly”!!
