Turning Heads #linkup: Ruffles, Lace, Leather, and Leopard

IMG_6678

Hello Ladies!

I think my brother was “feeling the heat” when I called him out on the blog last week.  He knows he can reply anytime 🙂 . Today I decided to put together and share with you how much details can make an outfit. You all know I love lace, leather, ruffles, ( faux-fur, tweed  and vintage inspired looks. I love texture and the fall/winter season certainly lends itself to incorporating texture into one’s outfit. I wanted to put together a neutral look, but add rich tones like this rust ruffled lace  top by Zara to add spice to this fashion recipe. I first wore this as a sleeveless top at NYFW, I will wear it again as a vest, putting a button down top underneath. I saw this cashmere leopard cardigan as part of the Mad Men collection for Banana Republic and loved the style straightaway!

Mixing the soft cashmere with ruffles gave it that romantic look I love, add the rich chocolate brown of the pleated skirt made it a great staple piece in my closet.  These autumnal tones of browns, rusts, tans, and the neutral leopard are ones that work well with my skin tone and are quite a bit of fun to put together. Speaking of fun, the puppies, Gibson and Truffles decided to get in on the action to show off their grooming they received earlier in the week. Truffles was handed to Joan, our groomer, as she went into the van, while Gibson decided he would run in the opposite direction! Eventually the enticement of a raw carrot settled them both. ( who can say no to cookies, I mean carrots, right? !) ( seriously they Dance for carrots!)

Now back to fashion. If one is looking to create a neutral look,  try adding texture:

1. Faux leather  pants with faux fur is a fun way to dress them up, yet keep it interesting.

2. Try mixing tweed trousers with a cashmere wrap or cardigan.

3. Use a variety of textures to create a unique look.  One need not be dressed head to toe but a look with tweed, lace, and leather would be a visual feast!

4. If you want to ‘start of small” think of adding a faux fur  clutch or tweed handbag to your look.

I also wanted to include the pups as we all were “groomed” this week. I had a pick me up with my hair, an added gloss helped eliminate the grey, with a trim, which represents about an inch off my hair.  I may do a post in the future about the products and such I use for my hair and tips on stying, if there is an interest. Hubby got his hair cut, and I laugh when he says ” it’s getting long”, as his hair does not grow long but rather “out”, rather bushy and big! It was much needed !

Jess, I’ve probably said this before but if so, this outfit has now taken over. This is the best assemble you’ve every put together. The colors alone would win hands down, they are perfect with your skin tone. And then the careful mixture of texture is phenomenal. This is absolutely stunning!
