07 Jul It’s Gibson’s Birthday!- He is 14 years old!b

By now, if you are an avid or regular reader of my blog, you know that I LOVE dogs! I have since I was a little girl. We had “mutts” ( what you used to call them, or mixed breeds- Shadow being my first, and Buttercup one of the last. Well, you know my boy Gibson, a charming and loving lil shih tzu, is 14 years old today!

Where has time gone? I still remember picking him up and him giving me “one lick” when we first met. I remember putting into the same soft crate, my girl Truffles was in, and her jumping out, thinking ” What is this thing?”

We initially got Truffles 16 years ago, as like an “emotional support” pup for me, as I was having alot of pain and trouble with my medical condition. Truffles was calming, sweet, and there for me. Of course, I then badgered, I mean “convinced” my husband that she needed a playmate! We set out then to find Gibson(who is named after my guitar).

Both dogs were so loving and kept me company, which was a great diversion from pain and from my every day, and I couldn’t have loved them more. I tell Gibson often, that I LOVE him to “Infinity”, as my nerdy husband corrected me when I said “Infinity and beyond…” (apparently there is no “Beyond with Infinity.” I told you he was nerdy!

My girl Truffles passed at 15.5 after having a stroke, and we believe the vestibular problems, were from a possible brain tumour. It just happened suddenly, and we were crushed. As she passed around Christmas, and we were to host,we both were walking around in a fog, as we were so saddened by what had just happened.   Gibson seemed a bit oblivious, which was a “good thing” but he did from time to time look behind him, as Truffles would usually be trotting along after him when walking.

Now, this post is about Gibson. He is 14, and I can’t say, I am not a bit scared, but luckily, he is in very good health, and continues to walk with myself and hubby, miles each day. There might be a bit more napping, but he pepped up as he now has a brother, who I will share at some point. Gibson, like most shih tzus, can be stubborn, have selective hearing, but he still flies off the corner of the bed, like he is Underdog, the superhero.

Very loving, we joke that both he and Truffles are/were a bit bougie, not of their own making I am sure. Once we are settled in bed at night, he likes to then jump off the bed, look at the waterbowl and bark. There isn’t fresh water. So one of us gets up and gets him fresh water ,which he sniffs and drinks. Another time, I received silk pillowcases from one of my collaborations, and guess who has coveted them as his now? Yes, Gibson. I have several, so I night I say, go over to your “special pillow”. We laugh at this and used to say Truffles was a Diva and Gibby a Divo, but I think we had a bit to do with it!

I believe that dogs are such innocent beautiful creatures, I couldn’t imagine being without them. They bring even more purpose to my life.

Gibby will be celebrating a bit with Tua, our neighbor’s Weimaraner, him, and his brother Danny. Sammie, his longtime friend, a white haired 15 year old female shih tzu won’t be here to attend. So, I baked a cake ( a dog bone, doggy appropriate, peanut butter cake) that they can enjoy, and bought him Fresh Pet, his favorite food to eat. We might be forgoing the party hats, as they just aren’t a fan.

People talk about their “Soul- Dog” Gibby is mine.

It’s his birthday, and I want him to “Benjamin Button”!

But I’ll take all the time I have left with him and enjoy the company, along with giving him lots of love!
