A Small Glimpse of Asheville, NC

IMG_8330

Hello Ladies!

I thought since I am and will be on vacation here in Asheville, I would share some of my photos and experiences with you about this beautiful, artsy, creative mountain town. Some people are familiar with it from the Biltmore Estate, and we have been there many times. It is a house  in which the famous Vanderbuilts lived. Read more about it here.

However, I wanted to present some other side to this fun town! I remember thinking in college that one day I wanted to live in a log home in the mountains , with beautiful views and fresh cool mountain air.  I have been sharing my fashion with you while I am here, but also tell you about my trip.

. We take our little pups, and Gibson and Truffles really love to walk as their ears go back and perk up when we say “Car ride” and “walk”. These little pups aren’t primadonas, they go the extra mile! Many people are suprised  when we tell them they walk 3 miles and now in the woods! We did some walking as we went into the wooded trail off the Blue Ridge Parkway, it was cool and so relaxing for me.

First, I have shown the fashion I would wear here when visiting in town, going to dinner, outfor drinks

or at night. During the day is what you haven’t seen, as we  stay at our cottage, a totally renovated virtually 2 bedroom house with the comforts of home.  Doing my work mostly on the outdoor patio, I stick to tank tops from Forever 21, and black , maroon, grey gym shorts from H&M. No need to dress up while at the cottage, it is relaxing, a home away, amidst a lovely whimsical garden with plentiful flowers, bird feeders and garden art. I am super comfortable!

We are staying about 20 minutes outside Asheville, in a town called Fletcher, so the elevation is not high as if we stayed in a cabin on a hill overlooking mountains.  We came here to have a change of atmosphere, as it is a “working vacation” for us, and some of the higher humidity we have been experiencing in the Lake Norman area. Mid August, here it is in the 80s where it will hit 97 soon in our hometown. Ugh! I have always loved the outdoors and outdoor sports as we met through rock climbing, but I love to camp, hike, and used to be able to canoe.\

We have had our share of great food here. For excellent restaurants, Asheville does not dissapoint! One of the first places we went is called, Carate, which has a waiting list to get in , so we made our reservation for early afternoon and enjoyed the Tapas and freshly made-                  for 2 days Red Sangria, a must have when dining there. Because I have Gastroperesis ( a slowing /paralysis of digestion in the intenstines), I have to carefully choose what to have, and was able to enjoy small plates such as the white eggplant, lightly friend with honey and rosemary, sweet red peppers stuffed with goat cheese, and a few other temptations.

We have spent time walking through shops in Downtown Asheville, and just enjoy sitting for lunch at a popular wine bar, tasting a rose with rose petals and strawberry notes. We went to Burnt Shirt Vineyard, at first because the name was just too cool to pass up, but then becuase the pups were allowed there. We enjoyed the tasting as this was a far cry from the last I mentioned, as the host provided us with much education on the grapes and history.

Other plans are going to Sky Bar, as the name indicates a fun rooftop bar in Downtown, to see the view of the area and enjoy some fun drinks. I hope to go tubing for an afternoon, as I also love the water, and packed my old sneakers and swimsuit where my hubby and I will ride along the Broad River and stop for a picnic lunch in the afternoon.  So between being active, enjoying the local art and culture, and being away in the mountains, it is a very nice place to be!

Thank you for writing about your time in Asheville. We have been through that area several times but have not taken the time to really get to know the town. It’s on our list of places to enjoy soon. Love the one shoulder green top – you look amazing! Enjoy your time away.
