Charleston Vaca: In Song, Words & Pics:Part I

IMG_3928
Hi Ladies,
You are now taking a journey with me, to a 3 part series on our vacation to Charleston SC, and the beaches of Kiawa and Isle of Palms. These are just a few things we did as we stayed in a 1200sq foot house near the beach with our pups Gibby and Truffles. Warning: These pics are me in my non-glamorous state, hair pulled back, no makeup. …

The first place we visited the next morning we arrived was The Lost Dog Cafe, a cafe where only dogs can eat and drink. Just kidding! But you can bring your furry friends and they have excellent food and drinks. We had the Folly Beach Eggs Benedict with a crab and shrimp cake taking the place of ham. Oh, so good! Our drinks were an Azeala, a combo of cranberry juice and sparkling wine, just cold and crisp enough for the heat and humidity. Did I say it was HOT! Here is a song to convey the weather the entire time we were there.  Glen Frey ‘The Heat is On Here

IMG_3932

I can’t say I was glamorous or elegant in any way, with the sweat pouring down your back the moment you step outside, at least that is how it was on Friday. So, I had my hair back either in a ponytail or bun. So no long red haired flowy pics.  Slicked back, hair in bun-kind of a week.

Besides having a ton of pictures of dogs on the wall, I thought this was too cool to pass up, love the bone fence!

IMG_3923

This restaurant was on Folly Beach, where the neon signs of the beach shops lit up at night and we found ourselves later in the week, at the Crab Shack. More on that. However, there was a man playing steel drums and another with the guitar, playing beach music, to be expected, and my husband said I had to be a wiseguy to go up and ask them to play some Steel drum Bahama Style music with a Swing Bent.. ( HuH? that was the look I was given) and he played something that would have pacified anyone who didn’t know what swing was. Enter. My waiter. Cute guy, but when he asked me ” What’s swing?” I nearly feel over! Maybe I should have had him listen to this SONG. by the Big Bad Voodoo Daddies, originally by Cab Calloway: Minnie The Moocher HERE

So, our first day, was mostly eating at this fab restaurant with our dogs, and waiting until later around 4:30 to go to Isle of Palms. We thought we could be the heat more that way, and besides, this girl doesn’t tan. I am ok with that! I learned more in my younger days of the dangers of baby oil and that Irish girls dont tend to tan but burn, but learned it the hard way. It was 50 SPF all the way baby!

Here is a pic of Isle of Palms: More on that, our house and where we went on Monday, as our vacation saga will continue. My husband, who typically isn’t one for improvising, decided that he would rewrite the John Denver tune: “Sunshine on my Shoulders” to This title and lyrics: “Sa-and on my face, Makes me Cranky…” as the wind was blowing and getting sand all over the two of us, nothing an ocean wouldn’t wash away!

More pictures and song to come next week. Hope you enjoyed the PART I of my vacation, we took alot of photos, and I will have a Part II and III next week 🙂

So glad you shared a bit of your vaca with us, you do look so calm, relaxed and causually elegant. I absolutely love the white sandy beaches of SC. In fact, I was seriously considering a quick labor day get away to Hilton Head Island until I remembered it was a holiday. Hopefully I’ll get there soon.
