17 Apr Hair at Home During Quarantine
Hi friends
So, has grooming gone by the wayside since we are in quarantine and staying home? Since hair salons are not open, I imagine you are either coloring your hair at home or letting it go grey? Did you take out your Flobee for a haircut?
Hair Plans
I had my hair done right before we were homebound and quarantined, but it has been about 6 weeks by now. Since I am not ready to go grey, I contacted my friend and hairstylist about what suggestions she might have. She usually does my hair at my home, visiting every 6 weeks and coloring it in my bathroom. We usually have a glass of wine and have a lot of fun chatting and catching up.
She is going the extra mile and going to mix my formula, make a video for instructions and put it in my mailbox in about 3 weeks. I’ll get my hubby to color the back of my hair and follow the video. So, we will see… I thought it was very thoughtful.
I am waiting longer than usual to color it, as I don’t know if I will have to do it this way again, as it seems we will be homebound for another month or more. I will wait for the haircut as my hair is getting long!
Hubby gets his haircut when I get mine colored normally. His hair is coarse and curly and will turn into a ‘fro when it gets long. I always joke with him and say his hair doesn’t grow long it grows “outward”!
Before she mentioned she would do this, I thought of 2 companies. Besides the boxed hair color, you can order on-line, I thought of E-Salon and Madison Reed.
***This post is not sponsored. I am just talking about services that are out there that would be good for at-home color. ****
E-salon will do custom color and send it via subscription when you need it.
I saw this and thought about it as an option before my hairstylist mentioned she would help.
This color is called Merlot on E-salon. This would be my option of I couldn’t get my friend/stylist to mix my color.
The other reputable company is called Madison Reed.
Amonnia free with 100% grey coverage.
This is Sardinia Red. You can upload a photo and see how the color looks on you.
Take the Hair Quiz to see which color is the best match for you.
Grooming
Speaking of hair, I am plucking the eyebrows when I would usually get them threaded. If not, I will have Brooke Shields’ eyebrows!
We are all getting pretty hairy and need grooming! Even my two little Shih tzus are going to be long haired Shih Tzus by the time we are allowed out. I have given them baths and brush their hair each day so they don’t get knots. We have a routine called “Hairbrush time” I call out, “Hairbrush time” and they come upstairs and jump on the bed. Ready to lay down and get brushed. They know they will get a few treats afterward!
Products
If you are looking for some great hair products to experiment and try at home, check out these products I am using.
Biolage Conditioner- I leave this on for about 10 minutes to deep condition. This container has lasted me a year before replenishing.
Kerestase Oil- Love this and have been using for years.
Heat Protectant- This Kerestase product is my favorite. Since I use hot rollers and a hairdryer, this works wonders.
Needing these items for home- bowl, brush and cape. Or this cape for more coverage.
I would love to hear what you are doing with your hair for this time in quarantine? Going grey, trying new products, home coloring? Let me know in the comments.

Posted at 10:26h, 22 AprilThese look really good Jess. LIke you I had my hair done just before lockdown, and normally I would be going to the salon about now. My roots are becoming quite visible but I think I can live with it – will be interesting to see what it looks like by June. The worst bit is the need of a haircut. As my hair is fairly short and in a bobbed shape, once it grows too long it loses its shape and starts sticking out everywhere. I’ve just been snipping at it! Not good….Great to see you at #WowOnWednesday again.

Posted at 10:17h, 18 AprilWhat an awesome thing for your stylist to do! I love that! I usually touch up my roots myself anyway, so nothing new for me. But I have not had my hair cut since June and am long overdue! But I guess it’s no issue waiting another year if I have to. Oh well. However, the military has not and will not change their grooming regulations for soldiers, so Jeff still needs to have his hair cute every 2 weeks to report for work without getting in loads of trouble. While all salons and barbershops are closed, there is one barbershop on the Army base that is open to service the 13,000 soldiers stationed here (both men and women). So you can only imagine what a mess that must be! Thanks for linking up with me!

Posted at 10:24h, 18 AprilI thought it was so nice too! I am waiting until about May 3rd, then I will do it that week. Ill get Roy to help with the back of my head . I hear you about hair cuts! Mine is getting quite long and I need some shaping. Wow, I didn’t know that about the military! Every 2 weeks! You think they would relax it a bit during this time. I bet that place is very busy! Take care and have a good weekend!

Posted at 20:43h, 17 AprilOne of my friends just ordered and got the Madison Reed kit and really liked it. It does make me glad I’ve embraced my greys so I don’t have to worry about that.

Posted at 17:09h, 17 AprilI’m just letting mine grow and grow. Since I was already making the transition to gray I don’t have to worry about coloring, although a few highlights would be nice and I definitely need a trim as the ends are getting some splits. How very nice of your gal to do that for you. My hubby always just does his hair with the clippers so he hasn’t been to a barber in years. Hope you are doing well. Have a great weekend. – Amy

Posted at 09:49h, 18 AprilHi Amy
Yes, it is really nice of my friend. My hair is quite long now- when I don’t put it in hot rollers you can really see how long.Good that you are going with the grey, perfect time!

Posted at 16:37h, 17 AprilYou found some beautiful red colors if you had to go it on your own. I keep my little Shi Tzu’s fur pretty short, so she’s okay–I should give her a bath, though. I’d say I picked a good time to go gray. My daughter has been cutting my hair, but I don’t have any qualms about trimming it myself now and again (my hair is pretty forgiving). I’m seriously thinking about visiting her next week and having her cut it. Our governor did start laying out opening the state plans today–so happy for that. Have a great weekend!

Posted at 09:48h, 18 AprilAww, I didn’t know you had a shih tzu! They are the best! Ours are soooo furry but the doggy shampoo helps make the hair so soft. You did pick a great time to go grey and it looks really nice! You too Kim!

Posted at 10:22h, 17 AprilI’ll be having to do this soon, and give a little trim on my fringe too! I reckon it’ll be hard trying to find the correct match! Thanks for sharing. Jacqui x

Posted at 09:46h, 18 AprilThat can always be the tough part! I have face framing layers in the front but they have grown in.

Posted at 08:10h, 17 AprilI trimmed my bangs last week and goofed. I will have to have them fixed when my salon reopens. I have some root touch up for the gray as usual but Im gonna put it off as long as I can. No use in messing with it when there is no where to go. I have a gray cover powder that works for now when I have to do a photo shoot.

Posted at 06:51h, 17 AprilI trimmed my bangs last weekend but I’m just letting my color do whatever it wants. Since I got the low lights last time my hair has way too many colors in it! I have heard a lot of good things about Madison Reed!

Posted at 09:45h, 18 AprilHi Kellyann,
My hair is getting quite long, but I don’t want to touch it. I will wait on the haircut. Yes, me too!
