How to Wear Dark Brown in Between Seasons

Today I am wearing a dark brown shirt dress styled for this “in between” season stage.

Dark brown has been on the fashion radar over the last year. Since I was partnering with the company, Masai Copenhagen, I wanted to style this dress before it became full on Spring.

Are you thinking dark brown is too dark to wear as we head into Spring? Well, I will share some accessory touches, that may have you changing your mind.

How to Wear Dark Brown In Between Seasons

Dark brown is a color many of us think of for Winter or for the Fall Seasons. However, it is one of those colors, as a neutral, that can work as we head into Spring with some quick changes.

This beautiful coffee bean brown marbled shirtdress is styled here with Spring touches, making it a great dress to wear in between seasons.

  • Style the outfit with the Season’s footwear. Instead of tall boots or booties here, I reached for my black leather sandals. For a more casual look, you could wear a pair of fashionable leather sneakers as well.
  • Accessories make a big difference in between seasons. I added this wooden braided belt I love wearing with my linen dresses to give it more of a Spring/Summer vibe.
  • Pay attention to jewelry. Gold is fabulous with dark brown tones, and I have my gold rings here to add to the look.  My resin flower earrings give a “nod” to Spring as well.
  • Handbags- You certainly don’t have to go all “matchy-matchy” and pick up colors in the dress. Although, ( and I should listen to my inner stylist here) I would have chosen a lighter bag for Spring. A cream leather bag would be beautiful here, as would other colors. These shades are all neutrals, so really nearly any bag would work. Think lighter for Spring.

Since this dress is a shirt dress, it could also be worn as a duster. I love the idea of wearing a cream base (column dressing) and leaving the dress open this way. Add a raffia bag, and some sandals, and there you have it!

I loved the puff sleeves and tailored look.  This dress is ON SALE, and is made from 100% viscose, so it is soft and light.

About Masai Copenhagen

One thing I love about the brand is the sustainability with their garments, and their work to help the rainforests. The other is that the company was founded by two siblings, inspired by women, and run by women.

From the website

Established in 1992 by two siblings from Copenhagen, Masai is a clothing brand designed to accent the creative lives of women everywhere. We cherish our Danish heritage and root our brand philosophy in our Danishness from the way we design, to our view on life and the world around us. We create thoughtful, long-lasting collections with artistic influences, featuring our signature, flattering shapes crafted for movement and effortless comfort.

They also have clothes designed by shape, and list which styles may be better suited for your body type.

I am wearing an XS in this dress, and a shaped style. It is roomier at the bust and tapers in a bit at the waist. Because I also wanted my waist a bit more defined, I added the belt.

What’s Happening?

I’ll have to do a monthly roundup post sometime again on the blog. I can’t believe it is the end of February!  I am continuing in PT and am making progress, although the exercises I am doing are probably going to be lifelong, to keep this condition at bay. Always the A Student in Physical therapy, there are days I get tired of doing them in the morning, but I also see the big picture.  So, I’m forging ahead!

Would you wear dark brown in between seasons?  What garment might you choose from Masai Copenhagen?

I appreciate your advice on wearing dark brown. I am pulling out my dark brown leather blazer for cool spring day. Plan to wear it with a lovely cobalt blue sleeveless a-line silk midi with a scarf to tie it together. I’m 73 and wanting to be stylish for fun outings. For walking the dog and grocery shopping I’m downright casual. 😉

Lovely shirt dress, it looks great with the wide belt. I bet it would look fabulous as a duster too!

Oh wow so pretty! I would wear brown in the spring! Sandals, belts and bags like you have can make it perfect for most seasons.
