14 Aug Life Lately
Hi Ladies,
I just thought I would give you a bit of an update as to what my family and I are up to lately. It is a strange world we are in right now, and I have been doing a lot of thinking – trying to stay in the moment ( live day to day) yet think about the colder months with Covid.
C’mon, we all need some “instant gratification” and shopping does that for me. I have bought some pieces at sales prices for casual wear in the summer. Mango is my go-to these days and I have scored on these linen tops for the summer months. Next week you will see a new dress I bought at H&M and will transition it to Fall in a month or so.
You have seen some of the new lemon tops I have bought recently, and I also shopped the Mango sale for some cooler tops for these hot months. This is what I picked up.
Linen blouse in white and pink. $12.99
I also bought these camo skinny jeans from Target in high waisted style. I will wear them with ankle boots in the Fall.
Shopping
Are you shopping the Nordstrom Sale? I don’t own a Nordies credit card, so I will be shopping the sale the same time as the general public. I am looking for a new winter coat on sale- my teal coat has alot of pilling and just is not wearable now. I am also looking for a pair of booties and some basics, but we will see. I love my combat boots, but they are showing some wear, so Ill have to check it out.
Here is my recent post on Nordstrom Sale Picks 2020
My mom has decided she will move here to North Charlotte, but will have to sell her house around next Spring. She is here as our company during all of this. She can be my “Acorn Tv” buddy, as I love my English Mysteries and so does she. I will also say we have been eating quite well with mom here. My hubby and I are not as “formal” with our meals, but mom likes to eat a protein, carb and veggie each meal. Surprisingly, my weight has stayed the same during all this quarantine and such. I am 5 ft 9 and 121 pounds. I’ve been taking walks on the trail behind our house, or using the treadmill I bought for home use.
Cooking
My husband, Mom and I have been cooking 3 meals a week with Blue Apron. I love trying new dishes and let’s face it, spices and such are hard to come by online at the grocery store.
Grilling on the deck.- I have been eating my share of salmon and chicken. Hubby and Mom enjoy burgers on the grill.
Reading- I am reading this book I bought on Amazon- “Never Have I Ever” a book by Joshalyn Jackson.
With twists and turns and excellent descriptive writing, I was intrigued and captured by the ciaracters of this book.
TV- The Nest on Acorn
The Woods- a foreign drama on Netflix. Mystery
The Twelve– excellent Dutch show about 12 jurors deciding the fate of one woman suspected of murdering her best friend and child.
Netflix’s latest international thriller comes from Belgium. The Twelve, also known as De Twaalf, revolves around 12 jurors who have been summoned to judge a grisly murder case. In 2016 Frie Palmers (Maaike Cafmeyer) was accused of murdering her young daughter Roos.
Guitar- I have been playing “Wish you were Here” by Pink Floyd and considering a refresher course on udemy.com, a website containing many classes one can take for a reasonable price.
I am starting on Monday to teach my niece guitar lessons. I recommended a 3/4 size acoustic guitar for her since she is 10 yrs old.
House
We are hoping to get our floors done on the first floor and part of the second. I love this design and it will be striking with the white cabinets.
I love a dark espresso wood for the first floor. See the sample HERE>
I bought a new lemon print tablecloth for our back deck umbrella. as well as a colorful outdoor matt to spruce up the deck.
My mom and I have planted 4 new coneflowers in 3 different colors pink, red, and yellow near our azaleas that are taking their time to bloom.

Stay Safe and Have a great weekend,

Posted at 13:13h, 14 AugustI am hoping my picks are restocked or there when I shop too. This week has been busy with getting ready for the kids to get back to school. Will be interesting to get back to a routine. Awesome that your mom likes to cook! Been walking and running, now I just need to watch my sweets intake!

Posted at 11:48h, 14 AugustYour flowers are so pretty, Jess! I’m so glad you’re doing things to keep your spirits up. Even though I’m recovering, my spirits are great, as I am “on the other side” of my bad knee and will continue with recovery. You’ve found some fun pre-fall things. I just found a couple of things (linen jacket, t shirt) that I’m considering snapping up. Oh, and so glad your mom is moving closer! Hugs, have a great weekend!

Posted at 12:06h, 14 AugustI just put Google images by it, those are not our exact flowers, but a picture of coneflowers, since we just planted ours. But they are pretty and giving life to the area of the garden with color as we wait for the azaleas to bloom. Sounds like fun items too , I will be interested in seeing if my items sell out by the time i can shop on the 19th.
You too! xx

Posted at 02:26h, 14 AugustSounds like you are all doing well in this strange time. I am glad your mother has decided to move. My mom is just 10 minutes from me and I love it. Even being so close, we talk everyday. She lives alone except for her cat. (My husband and I would consider combing households with her, but he is deathly allergic to cats.) Your coneflowers are lovely. And it’s great that your niece will be taking guitar lessons from you.
