New Makeup I’m Trying for Summer

I know I love to try new makeup in the Summer, and for that, I head to my local mall.

What kind of  makeup are you interested in, in the hot summer months? Something that makes you not feel like the Wicked Witch of the Wizard of Oz, “I’m melting, I’m melting!”

Several are my friends wear very minimal makeup during the summer, others want a full face. I should really do a video of my makeup routine, as I think I have it down to a science and it takes about 10 minutes.

I was able to get my eyebrows threaded at my local Idolize, so that was wonderful. I mentioned before, my eyebrows tend to get bushy!

Makeup I’m Trying

My Look

I love a natural look. I am wearing this makeup here-

I use Olay moisturizer after cleaning my face.

Then I use one pump of YSL Eclat Primer

Next Step Foundation. Here I have used the DiorShow Airflash in 200 ( light nuetral) or YSL Eclat foundation in BR20 Cool IVORY and love the natural skin-like look it gives.

For concealer I use Shape Tape by Tarte.

I will then do my eyebrows with Anastasia Brow Definer, filling in the sparse areas. I use Maybelline Mascara and apply 2 coats.

I use Chanel Blush in Rose. ( powder) and love MAC lipsticks. Currently loving ” Velvet Teddy” a neutral.

My eyeshadow palette that is used most often is NAKED heat, by Urban Decay.

 Anastasia Luminous Foundation

This foundation was new to me

I loved that it was cruelty free and went on lightly with some luminosity. I do prefer a luminous finish over matte, as I like a glowy look. ( and not from sweat!)  I took it home but found that it didn’t cover my pores as well, and did not last as long as some of the other foundations during the day. I also wasn’t crazy about no SPF. I do think that is one ingredient, that has to be in foundation, or that you wear prior to applying your makeup. So, I did return it .

YSL Touche Eclat Foundation Le Tiente Radiant Liquid Foundation

I am a fan of YSL, and love the YSL Eclat primer. It goes on so smoothly and makes foundation application do the same. So, I returned to a favorite foundation, YSL Eclat in my perfect shade BR20- cool ivory. I have some red undertones to my skin, so hence, a cool complexion. Half the battle with foundation is finding the perfect shade! Summer can be tricky, as my neck, chest and legs can get sun, but my face is fairer. This shade does work well for me. I love that it has SPF of 22, and is easy to apply. It is a medium coverage and buildable if you want to have more coverage. This foundation last at least 8 hours for me.  It is a luminous foundation as opposed to matte. I do use a foundation brush for application.

DIOR Airflash Spray Foundation

This foundation sprays a mist, like an airbrush . It is recommended that you spray it on a foundation brush then buff it into your skin. It has been highly touted and I watched a few You Tube videos, convincing me to try it. ( I don’t get sucked in that easily!) I ended up being matched with shade 200( which is light neutral) . This foundation feels like you don’t have anything on your skin, it is so light. It is buildable, but I am a bit conservative since the cost is $62 for 2.3 ox.  My goal was to try it and then bring it to use for our beach photographs . This lasts throughout the day and the finish is gorgeous and velvety! If you like a barely there feeling to your foundation, give it a try.

Maybelline New York Lash Sensational Mascara-

This is the first I am trying this mascara. We Reids ( maiden name) have long lashes. I always thought Maybelline’s mascara was very good, as good as DIORSHOW when I used to buy it , but less $$. The wand is curved making it easier to apply as well

MAC Lipsticks

I love MAC lipstick as it is moisturizing and the shades are beautiful. I bought Velvet Teddy, a coral peachy color that is a great neutral for the summer. Marrakesh is a spicy color and fun for when you might want a darker richer hue. I always think of the song, Marrakesh Express, by Crosby, Stills, and Nash when I get this out.  I typically go for the matte lipsticks as I like that look over a shimmery frost. ( they kind of remind me of the 80s)

Anastasia Brow Definer

I love this pencil and the Brow Wiz. First, the definer has a slanted edge which makes it easy to outline the outside of the brow, as well as create strokes to fill it in. I also love that it comes in Auburn, as auburn is a difficult shade to find in brow product

My Holy Grail for Hair

Even though hair is not “makeup” it is still part of the grooming process. I talked a bit about this product on the post- Amazon Summer PIcks

It’s a 10 is a wonderful leave- in conditioner spray that softens the hair, helps split ends, detangles, and really has made my hair in great condition.

What I want to try

Are you a powder blush fan or a cream blush fan after 50? When I went to look at makeup, I came across this NARS liquid cream foundation.

It is quite pigmented, so a very little goes a long way. The colors are the same as the powder, but I like the liquid application, and find creams can look better on my skin.

Have you bought any new makeup lately? What foundation do you wear in the summer?

Have a great weekend!

I’ve been looking at the Olay moisturizer, along with a couple other brands. I know nothing about them, but from reading, I gathered it’s important to start using moisturizer sooner rather than later so I definitely want to get some.

      Hi Alexandra!
I like the Olay with SPF as a moisturizer, it isn’t greasy and heavy. I started a skin care routine in my late 30s, but if I had the $$ would have started in my 20s.

Flawless! Your make is beautiful but I think a lot of it has to do with that fact that you are so gorgeous! Love your make up ideas! Have a great weekend!

Thank you Cheryl! I never did like a heavily made up face! I would like to get better at eyeshadow application though. You can always learn something new. Enjoy your weekend as well!

I used to always use cream foundations especially since my skin is so dry. But I swear I’ve been loving Laura Geller’s powder foundation because it doesn’t settle into my lines by the end of the day!!

That sounds great! I don’t have dry skin, more normal, but have always liked a liquid foundation. Whatever works for one’s skin!
