Small Things in Life

Happy Friday ladies!

I don’t know if it is just me getting older, and more introspective, but I like to look at and appreciate the “small things” in life, even more these days. It is a little things in life that really makes me appreciate it more and more. I also find that I don’t let myself get stressed about a lot of things as I try and ask myself, “Is this important in the overall scheme of life?” If I can answer no, then it isn’t worth dwelling on.

Getting my Master’s Degree in Music/Music Ed was something that was very important to me, and I relished the thought of being creative and sharing my love of music with kids., er, children! ( I used to work at a Parochial school, where the Principal nun told me to call them Children, instead of kids! ) But it is the day to day small things that make me appreciate life more.

I really find that laughing about certain things in life, helps to keep my santiy! If you don’t laugh, life becomes too serious and stringent.

What are some of the “small things” that I have learned to appreciate in life:

  1. My puppies and their personailities. They are both so funny! Gibby sneezes and spins in circles each morning before breakfast as he gets so excited about eating! ( I read it is about clearing their nostrils before a meal..don’t know if that’s true!?)  Truffles is such a good girl and has such empathy! When I am upset or crying.. she will wake up from sleep to come over to comfort me!  We laugh and call Gibson a “Divo” ( boy Diva) as I have to get him fresh water each time, even if there is water in the bowl!
  2. I love hearing the sound of birds chirping outside my bedroom window! It means Spring is coming…
  3. Hearing my hubby laugh… or cackle… as it may be! It in turn makes me laugh.
  4. Sleeping in… ok. Maybe this isn’t so small, but not having to be somewhere immediately in the morning is something I appreciate.
  5. Fresh bean coffee in the morning.. I am a tea girl, but I have to have my coffee in the morning, as to wake up!
  6. Taking a walk outside! I love the greenways we have here in NC, and I find walking so peaceful and I love the fresh air!
  7. Cuddling with my pups in bed. The joys of a small dog!  You know how much I love dogs! and I am that lady that has to stop and ask to pet yours!
  8. A bowl of french vanilla ice cream. Hubby tends to love ice cream with a lot of “stuff” in it ( peanut butter cups, cookie pieces, choc)
  9. Smelling the rose bush in our yard  and the flowers in the Spring, while sitting outside on our deck.
  10. A delicious  glass of vino… and a bath. A bath.. while drinking a delicious glass of vino!
  11. Music- Being a lover of different styles I love to hear a great rock tune from my younger days and sing in the car!
  12. Slipping into a comfortable robe after being out.

I could certainly name more! Shopping on-line, being in nature… It is the small things that keep life interesting!

I love thinking about the smaller things in life! Thinking about and going through the small things and how we can appreciate them in life and concentrate on that!

I so agree with the premise of this post Jess !
The cumulative affect of small things is large. I love to take time to enjoy beautiful scenery, and like you, I also enjoy roses and my morning coffee. I am not allowed to drink wine or champagne as it increases the toxic affects of my chemotherapeutic drug. So that is a bummer- but I do find myself enjoying simple pleasures. I love a good soak in the tub and listening to music, a good audiobook , and time with my friends and family!

Cooper does the same as Gibson, he sneezes when he gets excited! It’s the cutest thing! 🙂 I don’t know why though.

My dog makes me smile often too – it’s good to appreciate the little things in life! 🙂

Hope you are having a good weekend 🙂 We are having a quiet one to recover from our busy week!

As I’m finishing up graduate school this semester and on the job search, I’ve been doing the same things: finding joy in the little things. I’m currently posting on my Facebook things I am grateful for. It may sound trivial to some people, but I have gained a positive perspective and outlook that I hope resonates with others. I’m glad to see you’re doing the same thing!

Hi Brooke! Best wishes on Grad school! I know we can concern ourselves with some of the larger things in life, but things that are day to day need to be appreciated, I beleive. it certainly helps to think positive. thanks for stopping by!

I totally agree Jess, it is the little things that bring contentment…music, animals, sleeping in and good coffee (like you, I mostly drink tea but need coffee in the morning!) are things I really appreciate. Hope you have a wonderful time in NY! Looking forward to hearing all about it!

It is the little things in life that mean the most. We plan for the big things in life but little things can take us by surprise and mean so much more.

This is so important!!! Because there are so many things in life we can’t control, so these little things make it all worthwhile!!
I’m with you on sleeping in. It seems so inconsequential, but it makes going to bed so stress free!! Besides, I’m sure I’m in a better mood without an alarm!!

Oh Jess, I love your list of small things because they really are what brings us joy! Vino in the tub sounds great to me and I love not having to rush to work in the morning, it’s such a blessing even though I’m up early to head to the gym.
I am excited about your NYC trip and can’t wait to read all about it – have the very best time!!!
