Spotlight On: Over 40 Debbie of Fashion Fairydust

1. Hi Deb, I know it can be difficult to pick a name to one’s blog, how did you choose the Blog Name: Fashion Fairy Dust? ( My intro may be) As a musician I was sorry to hear about David Bowie’s passing. It got me thinking that perhaps the name Fashion Fairy Dust was something he used to put together his outfits.( wink;-))
I love that Jess! Fashion Fairy Dust does sound like something David Bowie might have used! I’d been kicking around the idea of starting a blog for quite awhile; I love fashion and friends would often ask my advice in regard to style. There was a coworker who had come to me for advice on numerous occasions and after we talked she had really kicked her outfit choices up a notch. One day she walked past my friend and I in the hall. She was looking fabulous and really rockin’ it. My girlfriend said to me, “Look at her! She wouldn’t be dressing like that if it wasn’t for you.” I said, “Ya, that’s me…sprinkling a little fashion fairy dust on people everywhere I go.” Hence, the name was born.
2.Tell me 3 articles of clothing one would always find in your closet.
boyfriend jeans, slouchy sweaters, plaid shirts

3 You are great at telling anecdotes on your blog about people or events you observe. What is the strangest story you have told on your blog?
Wow, that’s a tough one…I see so much I find to be strange. I think I’d have to go with the chicken camping story (http://www.fashionfairydust.com/skater-skirt-striped-tee-chicken-camping/) with the hillbilly stonehenge coming in a close second (http://www.fashionfairydust.com/floral-slip-dress-moto-boots-hillbilly-stonehenge/).
4. Tell our readers one thing that may surprise them.
When I’m in a situation where I don’t know people, I’m pretty shy.

5. What is your favorite fashion item to invest in?
I rarely ever buy anything full price. But I’ll spend more on something that I know that I’m really in love with and will wear all of the time.
6. You have so many stories to tell on your blog, it seems you truly live in the moment and are very observant of things around you. Any recollection of one of your favorite stories you told your readers.
I love sharing the special moments that happen with my students. I think my favorite has to be the day our local news meteorologist visited our class (http://www.fashionfairydust.com/burgundy-tulle-skirt-floral-sweater-omg-i-know-him/).
7. What is your favorite brand, and tell us your favorite store to shop?
I don’t know that I have a favorite brand per se. It varies depending on the season and what I’m buying. Old Navy has been killing it lately and the only skinny jeans I wear are their Rockstar Skinny Jeans. My boyfriend jeans are all GAP. The problem with both ON and GAP though is they often make slight changes to their pieces from year to year and it throws the sizing off. My other favorites are Target, JCPenney, Forever 21 and also small boutiques I discover via Instagram.
8. What do you find to be the biggest challenge blogging?
Time. Blogging is quite a bit of work if you want to do it right, so it does take a lot of time.

9.If you had a daily “uniform” other than what you wear to teach, what would it be?How different is your teaching attire from what you wear on a daily basis?
Honestly, my work outfits and my daily “uniform” wouldn’t be all that different. I don’t tend to dress like most teachers and I only go for the full-on professional look if there’s something out of the ordinary going on (for example, when I had to do a presentation for the state special education auditors). The main requirement for what I would call a daily uniform is comfort. If I’m not comfortable, I don’t feel like I look good. There’s nothing worse than fidgeting and fussing all day with something I’m wearing because I’m not comfortable in it.
10. Any tips for women Over 40 regarding style?
Wear what makes you feel beautiful. Ignore the “rules” and make up your own rules that apply only to you. How you feel in what you wear is the important thing; not how others feel about you wearing it.

11. What colors do you find most flattering on you? why.
I think brighter, richer colors play well with my hair…blue, purple, red and burgundy are favorites. Never yellow near my face….that is definitely a no-no for me.

The one outfit that stands out here to me is the orange jacket with the pink floral scarf. You wear these colors so well, and I love how the tans, orange, and pinks seem to all mesh into the perfect look.

Deb has a great style. I especially like the first photo. How she styled the sequined top with jeans for a casual look. Fabulous! Thanks for featuring her. I love to hear what inspires other women. Great job my friend.
