25 Feb Textured Neutral Look With White Denim
Hello friends!
Did you watch the Oscars? I saw quite a few of the movies and I was rooting for Green Book as a favorite! Subconsciously, I think I was influenced by “Oscar” as I have styled this look today and took out my gold -cream toned snakeskin booties.
I love wearing color, but this week I am showing you how I love to style neutrals. I love a soft color palette, and this outfit brings just that, along with the textured detail that amplifies a neutral look, giving it more interest.
The Movies
Hubby and I are BIG movie buffs. I love movies with great character development and stories, usually not the big blockbuster films, many times Indies.
As for the movies, my hubby and I love Queen’s music, and Rome Malik’s portrayal of Freddy Mercury was great. When Bohemian Rhapsody comes on the radio, I become Dana Carvey’s character with Mike Meyers of SNL, as I bob my head to the music and sing along with the harmonies. I can’t help myself. That song will never grow old with me! I love that Queen played!
A Star is Born was a wonderful movie, and I thought Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper were amazing. Since I had seen Kris Kristofferson in the version with Barbara Streisand, and I knew he learned how to sound an octave lower with his voice. That is no easy task!
I loved Green Book, as the relationship between the two characters was humorous and enlightening and it gave me teary eyes in the theatre.
So many good films! I want to see Roma, on Netflix, as I heard the woman up for the Oscar was a teacher and had never acted before. Now, that intrigues me!
I need to get on the ball and write about the fashion, as there are always at least one faux pas, but mostly beautiful looks.
I would love to see Glen Close in The Wife, as I heard good things and it sounds like my kind of movie. I love more character driven movies, less blow em up, action films. We have one or two theatres in Charlotte that cater to more Indie films, which I love.
My Outfit
As I mentioned, the gold in the Oscar, was the inspiration. I brought out my gold and cream snake skin booties and decided to create an elegant look with neutrals. Cream, white, tan and gold were the shades in this outfit. Texture always plays a role, when I style a neutral look.
If I wanted to add more texture, or pattern, I could have added my Brahmin bag in brown, adding to the color palette
My faux leather moto jacket in tan is from Betsey Johnson and has a corset back lace up detail, I have shown on the blog before. I bought this years ago, so it is an oldie but goodie.
I wore another older piece, my peplum cream textured sweater from Ann Taylor, and paired it with my modern skinny white jeans from LOFT I bought last season.
Adding to the palette, I chose an off white bucket bag from Zara, and my golden earrings from Kendra Scott., that reiterated the gold/brown/cream colors in the Matisse boots ( c/o Soft Surroundings).
There is nothing like a soft neutral palette, that is elegant and refreshing. I love these shades year round, and those white jeans should be utilized in that same fashion.
Who did your Oscar go to? Do you wear white jeans/ textured neutrals in the Winter?
White jeans- LOFT
Sweater- old-Ann Taylor
Moto-Betsey Johnson- older
boots c/o Soft Surroundings
bucket bag- ZARA- last yr

Posted at 17:03h, 26 FebruaryI saw a glimpse of the Oscar. I am not as big of a movie buff as I am a reader. Come to think of it, I am not even sure what movie I saw last! In any event, I love this neutral look. It’s crisp, fresh and feminine. Your snakeskin booties are gorgeous and a nice way to add as a statement piece in your outfit.

Posted at 10:54h, 25 FebruaryJess: Love the outfit on you. I have been trying to build a wardrobe and I have read each outfit needs three things: a Focal point (where the eye is drawn), Juxtaposition (edgy/dressy, sporty/preppy) and a Completer piece (jacket, vest). I would think your boots are the focal point and the jacket is the Completer piece and the sweater is the Juxtaposition (feminine/masculine) to the outfit. Please don’t laugh at this because for some of us fashion dysfunctional dressing doesn’t come easy.

Posted at 11:15h, 25 FebruaryHi Paula, Thank you!
I love this explanation, not laughing! I wrote an article a week ago about the 3 piece rule, myself. I don’t necessarily think of what you mentioned, conscientiously, but I do love layering, mixing textures and having one piece that truly takes center stage. It made me think, in the summer, since there is no layering, you would be making the center point, either the dress, or a piece of jewelry/bag. I do love contrast of masculine-feminine, for instance, a floral midi dress and a pair of brogues or my style , a floral midi dress and combat boots. These are good points! The main thing is you certainly want to have fun with fashion! 🙂

We don’t see all of it, as it is long, but will watch more the next day. I always love looking at the fashions. 🙂 Thank you Marta! The back of it has a lace up style for more detail as well. Happy Monday! xx
