THT- Anniversary Celebration in Nashville Part II

In the second part of our trip to Nashville, we visited the Grand Opry and spent time at the Jack Daniel’s Distillery.

If you missed Part I of our Nashville trip, CLICK HERE. I wrote about the Country Music Hall of Fame, RCA Recording studio B, and a great restaurant where we celebrated our 23 wedding Anniversary.

We did take the pups and they enjoyed the view from the Hyatt’s 14th floor window!

Fashion posts will be coming, but we have been enjoying our travels as of late.

Grand Ole Opry

The Grand Ole Opry was so fascinating, and I had in my mind what it would look like, both inside and out. This was the first time to the Opry and I truly enjoyed learning more about it and seeing where the artists reside, the dressing rooms, and the history of the Opry. The most wonderous thing was that the “circle” of wood from the prior Opry was brought to this building when there was a flood. This circle was not only a part of the Opry, but seemed to hold, magical and special meaning for those invited to sing or perform The song, may the ‘Circle Be Unbroken” is a theme in the Opry itself. The circle of musicians, friends and family is what the Opry is about.

From the Grand Ole Opry website:

An integral part of Opry history, Ryman Auditorium was home to the Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974. Now, the Ryman hosts many Opry shows in downtown Nashville, and has its own rich history and stories to tell.

Famous musicians and up and coming musicians both perform at the Opry, and you know the first names of many- Dolly, Reba, Garth and many others.

We experienced the tour as the backstage and viewing the audience from that stage, that circle. It has a wonderful feel, both homey and exciting. Although I am not an avid Country music listener, I do love great musicianship, and that is certainly here in spades at the Opry.

My dad got me interested in Johnny Cash, and I do love to hear some “Folsom Prison Blues” amongst many others.

I made it! ( I can at least pretend!)

Jack Daniels Distillery ( in Lynchburg Tennessee)

Did you know that there is one distillery for all of the Jack Daniels made and distributed in the country? If you wish to read all about the hsitoric timeline of the Jack Daniels company and just how it got started, read HERE.

Jack Daniel’s distillery is in Lynchburg Tennessee, and what is interesting about that is that it is a dry county.  We were however, able to sample (very teeny tiny samples) of 5 different JD Whiskeys. My husband likes whiskey more than I, but I do enjoy a smoked Old Fashioned or Whiskey Sour from time to time.  At the end, we did the tasting and everyone did not favor the #7 black label that everyone knows, instead some of the other whiskeys we more popular. They were a bit too strong for my liking, however.

We had a great time just touring the distillery and boy were the buildings hot, with no air inside, as the barrels would not permit. It was a very hot day to begin with, but we had an excellent tour guide. He talked about how the whiskey was made with 3 grains, corn, rye and .  One key ingredient, which will affect the taste of the whiskey is water. The limestone cave has natural spring water, and it looked so clean, I really just wanted to step into it!

We also saw how they purified the whiskey with charcoal, as well as make their own oak barrels, which too affects the taste. It was an interesting story, and quite interesting that it is the only distillery around that makes Jack Daniels. h

Jack was a bachelor, who never married. Perhaps he was “married” to his job!

We haven’t ever been to the Grand Ol’ Opry, but I think my husband would love it. He is a true country western fan. Maybe, I can get him to go next summer after he gets his new hips! We went to Lynchburg a few years ago. Unfortunately, they weren’t actually making whiskey that day because something was down or undergoing maintenance. We did the flights of whiskey. I am not a drinker at all. And, I would chuckle when the guide would say something about tasting the underlying notes of this or that. All I tasted was cough syrup! I did try all five or so of the samples. We thought it was funny you couldn’t buy whiskey there, but you could buy bottles which just happened to have whiskey in them! We bought our sons limited editions and had them engraved. Both have sworn they’ll never open the bottles. I think that may be a waste as someone someday will come across those bottles and drink it! Another good boozy tour is the Budweiser plant in St. Louis! The buildings, stalls, and grounds are amazing!

Thanks so much for the feature as well as this week’s link up! I hope you’ll join us for the Weekend Traffic Jam!

Hi Marsha, Your hubby would love it! I don’t listen to a ton of counrty music, maybe JOhnny Cash, but appreciate great musicianship. Oh, I know the notes! This tour guide said that is a bunch of bunk and everyone’s palettes are different! Same with wine. It was fun at the distillery even though I am not much of a whiskey drinker, but do like a good whiskey sour on occasion, and hubby makes a good old fashioned.

I always find these places interesting! My husband is more of a bourbon kind of guy so we visited the Buffalo Trace distillery a few years back (with the kids) and it was very neat.

So very interesting to read about the Opry and the Jack Daniels distillery. I’ve never liked whiskey (except in an Irish coffee) but always give my brother a bottle of JD for Christmas x
