THT-Stripes – A Classic Styled

Stripes are a classic, and I’ve styled some for you today on the blog.

Stripes- A Classic Styled

Even though stripes are classic, they are trending now this season and next. I wrote about them in my post- Stripes Love Them or Not? so do have a read if you missed that.

I have never really gravitated toward stripes, but I find my style evolving to be a bit more classic and feminine, I have to say I do love multidirectional stripes, or special details with stripes.

I had been looking at some striped sweaters and came across this mock neck sweater at Zara. Love the cream and black combination, as white and black just doesn’t appeal to me as much. See why on the other post. There can be exceptions to the rule, if the stripes are different in thickness, angled, have different patterns in a garment. I loved the striped and slit detail at the sleeve here and how it looks with a silk skirt, or in this case, on top of a black slip dress.

I also figured with all of the florals in my closet, it would be fun to have some stripes to pattern mix.

I love the ease of this outfit and find myself loving combat or chunky boots with this look, often to give an edgier vibe to the slip skirt or dress. The combats keep it modern too.

Zara has this exact sweater left in a large and extra large. For reference, I am wearing a small. I would say it is true to size. I have also found this one is similar and also love this and this option.

A Bit More About Stripes

It is a style that has been around forever.

When you think of stripes what comes to mind? Maritime? Sailor pants and striped shirts? It certainly did originate this way so that if a man was overboard in the Navy, they could be spotted. (the captains and higher-ranking men wore something different).

Or we can up until the 21st century, equate stripes with prisoners. Thick black and white stripes were the uniform di jour. Since, they have been traded for solid color garb in orange and other colors.

Johnny Cash sang about stripes in this song, “I Got Stripes.”

So tell me, are you a fan of stripes? Let me know in the comments

    Hi Jess,
I mentioned this on you post on Facebook but stripes were created by sailors that wanted to be seen in the water if they fell off the ship.

    Love all your refreshing styles!

I love the look with the skirt and ankle boots. I would wear that but I would not combine it with another pattern. Don’t know why but it goes against my nature – too Dutch organised, maybe!

I think the outfit is such a winner Jess. The silk and the combat boots just give off that modern vibe. And I do like stripes…now. I didn’t until I started blogging,

Like you, I’m picky about stripes, and as a consequence have just one top with stripes. This is a terrific outfit, Jess! I love the combat boots with this feminine outfit. Just beautiful.

I really like this outfit and I learned a new fact about why people in the Navy wore stripes. I have thrifted a couple Zara pieces recently that I have really liked!
