12 Jul THT- Styling a Dress as a Duster for Summer
I’m styling this tropical yellow dress as a duster today on the blog.
Button Down Shirt Dress Worn as a Duster
When you buy a garment, do you often think of multiple ways you can wear it?
Or, do you find yourself styling the same pieces, the same way all of the time? ( or most)
The beauty of a shirt dress is that it can be worn multiple ways and one of those ways is as a duster.
I have worn this Mango tropical shirt dress , as a dress before on the blog HERE
The mustard yellow is one of my favorite yellow shades that works with my “Autumnal pallette”. I do love a great tropical print too in the Summer.
One of my favorite ways of wearing dusters is with column dressing. Column dressing is when one color is worn “as a column” and a kimono, topper, duster is worn over top often. I often choose black or white as my “column” but really any color can work as a solid column under your duster as long as the eye is drawn from top to bottom. This gives a long, lean look under the shirt dress.
I choose not to wear a belt with it, but others do like to accentuate their waist when wearing. I find it unnecessary, as it would break up the column and the flowy nature of the duster over top.
So, think of this as an outfit “formula” that you can wear any time of the year- but with different fabrics per the season. I am wearing a cotton cropped pant with a white tank ( Target) and some neutral Franco Sarto espadrilles. I kept the outfit neutral and let the duster take “center stage”.
Give it a try, it is a great style to wear especially in the summer, in the evening, where you can take off the duster or keep it on, especially in air conditioned restaurants!
A Few Things
I hope you are all having a great week. Boy are these summer months are going by too quickly!
Just a bit of FYI, I may do one post regarding the Nordstrom Anniversary sale soon, but don’t like to inundate you with many posts. The sale begins for the general public on July 15th.
