Trending Now- Paper Bag Waist Trousers

Hello Ladies,

You might be wondering… hmm is this a DYI post? Will I need a paper bag to make these pants? What if I only have plastic bags? Haha ! No, in all seriousness, this is a style of pant that is showing to be quite popular right now. Just remember, a trend is just that and may not be for everyone, but if you like to try something new and are a pant- wearer, these might be for you.

You may be familiar with high waist pants, as they rise higher on the waist and can also create therefore, a long length to the leg. Paper bag waist pants are higher on the waist and cinched like a paper bag. ( thank Goodness I am not referring to the material, right? They usually scrunch at the waist and are tied together with a ribbon/belt. They’re chic, elegant,” This waist style is also on skirts, culouttes, and most commonly a trouser. I do love the style, and they would also create a fresh look in the workplace amid tailored trousers and pencil skirts.

I have my eye on a pair from Mango, and olive green that would work well year round. Some paper bag pants have a cropped bottom, others more of a tailored cut, it really depends on what style you are looking for and the shoe you might wear with them as well.

So. Now. You bought the pants, as you too love the style and the next question you ask is ” What do I wear with these?”

Because of the waist material and leg length, you want to wear something that is more fitted or streamlined on top. A fitted blouse would be the style of choice as you want to be able to see the waist and not have anything bulky on top. I love seeing these pants styled with a heel, ( any height) as it gives the leg even more length due to the style.

( Love these^)

Now that Fall is around the bend, think paper bag waist pants, slim turtleneck and booties.. Tuck in a soft slim tee and wear a cropped jacket over top. This waistline will be comfortable and also stylish! Proportion is key here, so layering is not necessary and would add too much volume.

As I mentioned, the waist style is trending right now, but if you are not a pant wearer, why not look for a paper bag waist pencil skirt to try it out. 🙂

Tell me in the comments: Are you a fan of the Paperbag Waist Style? How would you style your pants?

Stop by tomorrow!

Have a Great day!

Jess xo

Hi Ele, ASOS does have some great styles as does Mango and I think more will be popping up for Fall. I love the olive but also a plaid pant in this style.

These paperbag pants are indeed tricky. But when styled right they are head-turning. Thanks for joining the Top of the World Style party.

I’ve got a super pair of this style, which I call ‘peg’ trousers. Searching for some pink ones, but you know how it goes when you want a certain style or colour you can never find them!! Nice post Jessica. x Jacqui

I have loved the fact that high waistlines have come into vogue again these past couple of years, and I think that paper bag trousers are absolutely wonderful. I always manage to find a great one when I’ve already spent my budget. Oh well. Hoping the trend will continue to last for sometime.

I love this trend so much Jess, especially when you have wide hips they make you look slimmer.

I’ve seen these more and more, but I know Nancy (the 60+ model on my blog) would be shaking her head at me….she hates to tuck shirts in. However, she did just buy a bodysuit—so maybe I could twist her arm??

I know not every trend is for everybody. I do like the style but do think there are different variations on the pants so you have to go with what you find flattering on you. 🙂 xx
