Turning Heads Linkup -Linen Shirt Dress with Straw Bag and Scarf

Morning Friends-

Hubby, pups and I decided to take a trip down to Freedom Park for this photo shoot. It is near one of the more popular green ways and often where my hubby walks the puppies while I am in PT. Not fair, I know.. me getting needled while he enjoys the outdoors! Anyway, I have had this Zara linen off white shirt dress for a few weeks and wanted to put together a look with neutrals. This week is all about whites and neutrals on the blog.  If you missed yesterday’s post- read – White Eyelet Look with Neutrals for Summer.

Outfit

I used to be against linen, having it wrinkle, and getting into a tizzy when it would crease. But hey, I am over it! It keeps me cool and is stylish and easy to wear. I now have 3 linen dresses I can rotate in the summer, as it can get pretty hot here. Read my prior post, Trending Now-Linen.

The lighting was lovely this day as the sun hit my hair. Hubby just bought a reflector and diffuser to use for photos in the sun.  He just got it, so we didn’t have time to use it yet, but this would be the perfect time. The areas where there is more sun on my face, then shadow on the other, we can use for a more uniform photo. But you try and then, see what you need to do.. So in the future!

Here I am wearing my Andre Assous Cadence leather espadrilles. I love them! So comfortable and they give just a bit of height. I, of course, added my round straw bag, which has gotten much use this summer. I added a leopard scarf to the bag, and also tried it as a scarf accessory around my neck. I think I like both ways, but preferred it on the bag. Large, cream flower earrings  adorned my ears, another statement earring buy from Baublebar. Love these similar pair.

New wine bar and Eyebrows

Hubby likes to be rewarded for his efforts, so we went to a new wine bar near the park, called, Foxcroft, where we had a delicious lunch of mushroom, cheeses and basil flatbread with a crisp, clean, fruity Chenin Blanc, perfect for the warm afternoon. Since the pups were with us,  they garnered a lot of attention and met with “Pickles”  an adorable Morkie ( maltese, yorki) 3 year old pup who was sweet on Gibson. I was a lovely afternoon, and let’s face it, it is a treat for me as well! And it wasn’t a one stop shop, there was a Eyebrow bar next to the winebar, so in between sips of Chenin Blanc, I had my eyebrows threaded and shaped. I can multitask!  Killed 2 eyebrows with one stone 🙂 My “Brooke Shields” eyebrows ( well, that’s what I called them in middle school ) needed some grooming.

Tried styling with a brown belt added instead of the cloth belt.

Scarf tucked into shirtdress styled, or worn on straw bag.

Linen really is the best thing for the heat. I have a couple of linen dresses that I love for the heat and humidity of a Toronto summer.

So fun that you can take your dogs when you are out going to restaurants.

That dress is perfect for the summer heat, Jess! I used to hate wearing linen because of the creases but, like you, I’ve learned to love it! You look fabulous – I particularly love the dress with the brown belt!

I actually like how linen wrinkles 🙂 To me it is just part of the look and feel of linen. It does give a more causal vibe, but I don’t think it looks messy or looks like it should be ironed or something. I love how linen feels in the summer and I love this dress on you both with the brown belt and the fabric belt! I also like the scarf around your neck and on the bag…I really can’t decided between the looks, they all look great on you!

I love everything about this look! I used to feel the same about linen and like you I am so over it. I even kind of like the wrinkles that come with it. Go figure! You always paint such a pretty picture with your words. Have a great rest of the week!

Looking so good in your cream linen dress. Linen is so cool to wear in hot weather, never mind the creases. Your accessories beautifully enhance the whole look. Nothing like multi-tasking- love the idea of brows with a glass of wine. Many thanks for hosting Jess.

I wasn’t a fan of linen either but I had tried on a linen jumpsuit and I couldn’t believe how soft and easy it was to wear. Unfortunately that jumpsuit didn’t fit but I can vouch that linen is one type of material that you can bet I’ll be after! Love this linen dress you are wearing! I like how you paired it with leopard scarf to add a sophisticated look to your outfit. Speaking of eyebrows, mine is quite the opposite! It takes a month at least to get it to grow in!

You know Jess, You named this blog so perfectly. You are truly “elegantly dressed and stylish” all the time. Beautiful shirt dress and I really love the espadrille wedges. I always avoid linen whenever possible. I’m big on looking at the fabric content before ordering and usually if it says linen, I just pass. So pretty, but so much work. LOL. Hope you’re having a great week! XO

      Thank you Lisa,
aw, that is so sweet of you to say! Thank you- the espadrilles are from Andre Assous and one of the most comfy pairs I have. I know what you mean about linen, it took me this long to consider buying it. I use downey’s Winkle releaser and smooth it before wear. I am a lazy ironer! You too! xx

I love linen anything and always have. In fact, I’m working on a chambray linen tunic at this moment. As far as neutrals, I think they are a perfect background for an array of color combinations which is why they are always in my playbook.

I’ve started embracing the wrinkles in linen too—just like I’m trying to embrace them on my face, ha ha!!
And that’s exactly what we do after a photo shoot—go get food (and wine)!! It’s only fair!!
