Turning Heads Linkup – Soft Surroundings Boho Maxi Dress – Late Summer

Morning friends!
How is your week going?

I’m going to be sharing some Late Summer fashions from Soft Surroundings and this dress caught my eye from the start. Anyone else for Boho vibes? Yesterday I wore Boho, so it’s a week of boho fashion’s friends!

The Movies-

We went to see the movie “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” over the weekend, and speaking of boho, it was about a time when counter culture reared it’s head, and what if Charles Manson and his hippie groupies took another path instead of Sharon Tate’s home the evening in 1969. I don’t want to share any spoilers, but I was quite amused, as the theatre in the afternoon was quite quiet, and the couple in front of us was in their 20s.

As we got in the elevator, the guy said he wasn’t quite sure what the movie was about, didn’t know what he just saw. I explained to him about Charles Manson’s hippie followers had murdered Sharon Tate and the people in the house in the Hollywood hills in 1969. I explained why the movie’s circumstances would have changed American History. He looked at me and smiled while nodding his head saying, “Oh, ok. Thanks! Now I get it! ” I thought it was funny as I was under the impression everyone knows the history of Charles Manson and the Tate murders. I guess not if you are in your 20s.

It was quintessential Quentin Tarantino and if you enjoy his movies, you will enjoy this. It was smart and creative with some violence,  typical of the director.

Outfit

Speaking of hippies, this boho style was love at first sight. On the Soft Surroundings website, about the Esparanza Dress “this maxi set off by vintage florals and a special novelty button at the front. Lightweight crinkle-gauze with smocked waist for a great fit and elastic sleeve hems for option of blousoning. ”

I received it in the mail, and let’s just say, “I dug it.”

I love the vintage style print and the gauze waistline, accentuating the waist. The pink, blue and purple brooch is attached to the dress and came with an extra… you know I love my brooches!

The material is very soft and the length perfect on me, being 5 foot 9.

I had to choose my braided, tasseled purse from Rebecca Minkoff for this look.

My soft pink flower earrings add to the flower power of this bohemian look, and fyi, they are very light!

Braided espadrille tan sandals add to the look.

It was 90+ when I took these photos, so I will wait a bit to share the other more Fall-like pieces from Soft Surroundings.

How to Transition this Dress to Fall

What I consider now when buying, is how can I wear things multiple seasons.

I could add a moto jacket or long cardigan duster.

I would also add a different bag and a pair of boots or booties.

Easy!

Now all I need is that floral crown! Perhaps I should have been dancing around the field barefoot for full effect?

You look absolutely gorgeous in this dress and style! I particularly love those beautiful earrings and the brooch. I love to wear my clothing across seasons too and you’re right about adding booties and a jacket to this dress to make it look more autumnal ….. and it’s amazing how little popular culture is known by the young of today!! Have a great weekend!!

I wondered if that movie was any good or not. The older I get the less I’m able to watch violence.

You know I love me some boho so I love this look. I really find the colours gorgeous on you.

Ok Suzanne, well for me it doesn’t help that the squishy sound effect are there and other sound effects after violence. I usually turn away too. Thanks I love the dress and the easy style. xx

    Jess,

You look amazingly in this Soft Surroundings boho dress. It is definitely your style and color too!

I’m looking forward to seeing the Once Upon a Time in. Hollywood movie. Happy to hear your positive review

It’s hard to believe that those days are now “old memories” to our generation…sort of like our parents talking about 40’s and 50’s.

What a fun dress! I have been head over heels in love with the “boho/hippie” style and colors for soooooo long – love the dress, especially the fact that it has long sleeves! Our weather has been in the 90’s too, and high humidity – makes it hard to want to be out taking pictures, huh? I designed a crocheted sweater, and I have been wanting to do an outdoor photo shoot, but I don’t know if I will make it through, haha!

I want to see the move about Charles Manson now that you mentioned it – I hadn’t heard of that one yet. That dress is so pretty on you and would be beautiful with a leather jacket for fall!

Jess, I do like boho style and your dress is so cute!! I had to laugh at your movie story–we forget sometimes that the “Kids” in their 20s don’t have the same references we do! Although I have to say my 27-year is pretty well-informed! Lol! We haven’t seen the movie yet and now I want to go see it this weekend! Thanks for the review!

Such a great dress, Jess! And I love the tassel bag. That movie sounds quite interesting. I may have to try to get out and see it. It’s funny how certain cultural references get missed by different generations. It reminds of the first time I saw Bridget Jones’ Baby. When they are at the music festival and they ask Ed Sheeran to take their picture…he tries to get in the photo with them and they are all confused as to why they should want him in their picture because they didn’t know who he was…the funniest part was that I didn’t know who he was at that moment of watching this scene! So when I realized it at the same time in the movie that the characters realized it, I laughed my butt off! And now I am huge Ed Sheeran fan!

Groovy Jess dress, I totally dig it too and you have the flower power going on with those earrings!I adore anything boho and this dress is stunning – the colors, the styling – it’s a classic boho piece you can wear forever! The movie sounds good! It is funny to think that there’s a whole generation who knows nothing of Helter Skelter – gosh sounds like we are getting old, doesn’t it?! Have a great day gorgeous!

This pretty boho maxi is so good on you Jess. It certainly does have a hippie vibe. The movie sounds interesting but I find Tarantino’s work far too violent for me. Many thanks for hosting.

When we have vacation! What a beautiful dress, those colors look so good with your hair. And the earrings are fantastic!
