Turning Heads Tuesday – Plaid Suiting- Ways to Wear

Hello friends

I think I have stalked several websites for plaid blazers and trousers over the last couple of months. If you go on retail sites, you will see a barrage of plaid blazers and different checked and plaid trousers. I love this look! Even though I am not in the “workforce” per se, it still makes me feel good to wear a plaid suit!

Weekend Happenings

The location here is on Lake Norman, near our hang out, The Cottage. We usually kill 2 birds with one stone and do pictures here as there are some great settings. They had a fire pit going outside the restaurant next door, and we were about to warm ourselves up with our favorite Cabernet, Juggernaut from Napa, CA. I need my social time and I just love getting around the table and chatting with friends we have made there. Since my husband also works from home, it is nice to chat and get out!

I mentioned yesterday we went to a festival ar our local Farm to see border collies herd sheep. They are amazing dogs! We also watched a dog diving and this lab bought on Craigslist won at over 7 feet high and about 27 feet long. I would love to see Shih Tzus dive jump 2 feet! Lol! I would pay to see that!

This 2 yr old brown and white border collie would collapse into my arms and face as she would want a belly rub. She was very loving . I read that border collies need 2 hours a day of exercise as they are quite energetic and intelligent dogs.

Mad for Plaid- with a feminine touch

I was looking on H&M, Zara, Mango, and finally found trousers from H &M with this black and camel plaid pattern. I went to the store to try it on and they didn’t have the matching blazer to go with it. After about a month of feverishly stalking the website, the jacket finally came in stock in my size. I am wearing a 4 in both pieces, which is my regular size.

I thought of the possibilities of wearing this blazer and trousers separately and I will share it on the blog. In college, I had dark mustard and black plaid suit ( mini skirt and blazer set) that I adored wearing. I love a menswear look and thought this “suited” me just fine! You do know Id have to put my own spin on it though right? I went first for my floral silk blouses, and love the idea of mixing florals and plaid. But, I saw this rust-colored lace shell, with ruffles down the middle, and thought it would be a perfect mix!! The mix of masculine and feminine really gets my heart pumping!

Just a note! I bought this outfit about 10 days ago, and it is already out of stock at H&M. I am linking others that are similar or plaid blazers that I like. Here is a plaid Jacket from Nordstrom that is similar.

I have also linked some plaid trousers that I like or are similar.

If you missed yesterday’s post- Dark Florals with My Combat Boots- then you will see why!

So many ways to wear these pieces- here are a few.

  1. A classic look with the pants and camel sweater. Add sneakers for a more youthful and modern touch!
  2. Wear the blazer with jeans and style it with another print to print mix. Stripes, florals, other fun prints to create visual interest.
  3. You can’t go wrong with a plaid blazer and dark denim for Fall. Add some knee-high boots to your skinny jeans.
  4. Wear the blazer with a faux leather skirt. This is great “faux-leather weather” ( I just like saying that!)
  5. Wear the trousers with a Fall warm cozy thick knit.
  6. Try wearing the plaid blazer over a floral dress – the blazer adds additional shape and the patterns are fun to mix.
  7. There are plenty of ways to style these separates, stay tuned.

I’ve bought a double-breasted blazer as well and have some ideas on styling it. For me, even though I work on the blog from home; I enjoy wearing whatever I like to go out. If I suit makes me feel good one day and jeans and sneakers the next, it’s all about having fun with fashion!

I’m definitely not petite, and I find that plaid makes me look and feel frumpy. Loved the way you paired the suit with lace to make it more feminine.

That plaid suit looks smashing on you! Well done! Your persistence paid off. I have heard the same thing about border collies in regard to exercise. They are so fun to watch.

    Hi Jess!

Lake Norman sounds amazing and you’re right about the beautiful surroundings…great place for pictures! I too have just purchased a plaid jacket. I got mine at Zara because I wasn’t totally willing to commit to a high price tag yet. I love how you’ve styled yours with a more feminine jacket!

H&M has the best soft plaid finds. Their suiting is my favorite! Great look, Jess!

    Hi Jess,

Oh how I would have loved to visit with the Border Collies with you. You know my love for Shelties. They are often mistaken for Border Collies.

I love your pantsuitโฃ๏ธ I have always been a fan of the pant suit and have owned many over the years. We can never go wrong with a good Blazer.

    Thanks for todayโ€™s link-up!

    Rosemary
