29 Jul Wearing a Summer Romper Over 50 + My Fashionable Niece!
Morning friends!
So sorry I missed Friday’s post. My niece Makaila was over for 3 days and we got busy! So, today I am sharing how to wear a summer romper over 50 and I’m also including my niece in on the fun!
Photoshoot with My Niece
Let me introduce you to my 8-year-old niece Makaila, in case you missed a previous post with her in it. We styled Karina Dresses together in this post-Mommy, Aunt and Me- Karina Dresses.
My niece has thick, beachy blonde hair, has a feistiness about her, and loves music and fashion. I think I may have memorized the lyrics to many of the “Hamilton” songs without going to the show because she plays the music so often, and it’s growing on me! I will take that over the pop divas she listens to!
She was quite excited to do photoshoots with me this week, and we had fun together. Although unplanned, we both had kind of tribal prints on that day, her in a black and cream jumpsuit from Target, and me in a rust tribal jumper from H&M I bought about 3 or 4 years ago.
Here were are at what I’ve dubbed “Turtle Bay”, although that day we saw a crane, turtles and a snake in the water!

You know me and accessories, we are good friends and we decided to do some print mixing with my rust seashell neck scarf and the print of my jumper. I could have double tied the scarf to fit more like a choker without the extra material hanging, but I liked this way as well. Its a change from a necklace and it was cooler this day. I know a neck scarf isn’t the most comfortable thing to wear in 95-degree temps, but the breeze was blowing and Mother Nature gave us a break at 82 degrees that day.
I also added my favorite new chocolate brown woven belt, which adds more depth of color and also accentuates my waist. My favorite gold espadrilles were picked from the mountain of shoes I have in my closet, and the bronze cuff was a nice finish.
These are just details that can make an outfit more dressy or elegant. Take away the belt, scarf and bracelet, and add a thin gold necklace with some converse sneakers and you have a casual look. If you aren’t crazy about your arms, you can add a jean jacket. If the jean jacket is too hot or not your thing, try adding a plain, thin white tee under the jumper.
The length on the shorts is fine and you can also find rompers with a longer inseam if you don’t want to bare as much leg.
In the evening, or if you go to a restaurant or movie theatre, try pairing it without the belt, and add a blazer. I have worn this romper with a white fitted blazer, and some wedges or espadrilles, and it is a fun, dressed up look that keeps you cool in those temps. Why DO they crank the air in restaurants?
I look at a romper in terms of it being like a cami and shorts, but one piece. If you would wear a cami and shorts, you can wear a romper. And “age-Schmage” it doesn’t matter as long as you love what you are wearing and feel confident!
Both my belt and my bag have been worn frequently this summer.

Posted at 12:21h, 29 JulyYou look great in that romper. I have two I will wear sometimes but plan to wear them more at the beach next week. Your niece is so pretty! I love her jumpsuit and how she added the touch of rose pink with the scrunchy on her wrist. She would be perfect to show off some “back to school” fashion.

Happy Great Day
Posted at 16:13h, 29 JulyI would totally wear a romper over 50 (and I do). I usually style mine with Doc Martens because that big toe area is heaven after a bunion surgery. Your niece is cute as can be, by the way. The pics from your styling day out together are just precious. I’m sure she will appreciate these memories forever.

Posted at 16:25h, 29 JulyYes! Wear that romper. I love the sound of that with Doc Martins! I do have a favorite pair of combat boots from the Swedish brand Sofft and wear them with dresses in the Fall. Glad you liked the photos, she is with me again tomorrow for the shoot, as we had about 3 days together. I hope she has these memories and cherishes them. Have a wonderful week! xx

Posted at 11:01h, 29 JulyI love this look with the scarf and belt and the shoes definitely are a hit, Jess! I haven’t worn a romper in about 20 years, so I may have to give this another try. I love the idea of pairing it with a blazer in the evening for dinner out. Your niece is adorable!

Posted at 11:10h, 29 JulyHi Patty,
Thank you! The scarf is a new buy on Mango and the sea shells would remind me of our latest beach trip. Give it a go, as you can dress it up as you like and I do love the look with a romper. Thank you regarding my niece 🙂

Posted at 09:57h, 29 JulyThat is so sweet your newphew likes to take your pictures. My niece has an instant camera, and she took several of us when we were out. She loves fashion. Glad you like the romper look, I think its how you style it that makes a difference, and my belt has been worn throughout the summer, I love it.

Posted at 04:42h, 29 JulyLove this look, I would wear this if I was on holiday but I think I would struggle at home as I am very pale and don’t like to show my legs off much.. I have been binge reading your blog lol and feel I have gotten to know you over the past few weeks and I love your sense of style. You have had a very positive influence on how I dress and as a result of your style I have ditched all my killer heels that I was scared to part with because I thought they were what made an outfit. (some of your outfits have shown me otherwise). I now feel that I can style an outfit with much lower shoes which are much better as I struggle with heels these days due to an old injury. Thank you for your blog I love reading it..

Posted at 10:00h, 29 JulyHi Lisa!
I bet a romper would look great, you are tall. I usually am pale, but got some sun in the Outer Banks beaches this year. Thank you so much for your lovely compliment on my style. It has evolved over the years, but I do enjoy dressing up and wearing accessories to create a more polished look. I have also gotten rid of many high heels throughout the years, donating them as I couldn’t wear them with EDS. So glad you enjoy the blog!

Posted at 10:03h, 29 JulyHi Suzy! It was funny we didn’t plan the romper and jumpsuit, it just worked out that way. Thank you for the message about my niece, she is a cool kid! 🙂 Thank you for the lovely comment, I do have long legs thanks to my dad! He was 6 ft 4 and tall! I do like rompers and think you can always wear them if you like yourself in them, thats what matters 🙂 xx
