What I’m Loving in October

Hard to believe we are in the middle of October. I am sharing today, some of the things I have been loving in October.

Halloween decor is up in the neighborhood and Fall festivities are happening.

We used to go to Disneyworld on vacation with my Pap when he was alive . The 4 of us kids, mom, dad and pap cram in a car for a very load road trip. We always went in October, as it was cooler, and the crowds weren’t as big. Great memories!

This Fall is zipping along, and I am sharing some of the things I have been loving thus far this month

Cooler weather and changing leaves-

I do love this quote and have always found this to be my favorite season of the year.

well, I wish it were a bit cooler than it is, but we are supposed to drop more and be in the mid to low 70s here, so I will wear my jackets if I go out!

Leaves in Charlotte are expected to remain green until at least Oct. 25, when a few are expected to begin turning fall colors, according to the 2021 Fall Foliage Prediction Map released annually by SmokyMountains.com

So you may be seeing more changing leaves in November on my blog- This post was from Nov 2016 and our Maple tree

Comfort Food and Homemade soups-

I always make my famous “Butternut squash soup recipe” which adds carrots to the mix for a thicker soup. It is one of my favorites.

recipe from Goodtoknow.com

I am always looking for recipes for Fall for me to try. I don’t eat red meat, so I am in the mood for a turkey chili soon.

We also get Blue Apron and we recently made a really tummy warming and satisfying gnocchi recipe.

Here is the Pesto Gnocchi with Mushrooms and Pistaschio Breadcrumbs recipe

Hot Cider- yum. I just love apple cider and mulling spices, I will enjoy that in the evening with a cookie, or while reading in bed.

Books-– I am currently reading this book called The Last Bookshop in London.

I previously read The Nightangale, by Kristin Hannah, about 2 women in France during WWII.

This book takes place in England during WWII.

From the website- “August 1939: London prepares for war as Hitler’s forces sweep across Europe. Grace Bennett has always dreamed of moving to the city, but the bunkers and drawn curtains that she finds on her arrival are not what she expected. And she certainly never imagined she’d wind up working at Primrose Hill, a dusty old bookshop nestled in the heart of London.

Through blackouts and air raids as the Blitz intensifies, Grace discovers the power of storytelling to unite her community in ways she never dreamed—a force that triumphs over even the darkest nights of the war.”

Doing Some Fall Shopping

I have been doing much of my shopping on Poshmark and a few other places.

I bought the Spanx faux leather leggings which I really like, and I see myself wearing these with jackets or long tunic tops or sweaters.

I purchased a few silk blouses and button downs as basics to layer with jackets and sweaters. I actually “needed” some solid colored blouses as you all know I have a tendency toward prints.

I recieved a pair of Mom jeans from Mott and Bow, ( HERE) and purchased a dark charcoal pair from Madewell. I also bought their Perfect Vintage jean in Tall, and love the 99% cotton, 1% elastane, that really feel like Old school denim. It is the perfect time to upgrade or add a new pair of jeans to your closet, since there are more relaxed styles and straight leg available.

I bought this pair in Lunar wash. It is the Perfect Vintage jean by Madewell.

They are 99% cotton and 1% elastane. I got a 26 in these Madewell jeans.

The Spanx leggings I bought for 1/2 price on Poshmark. If you do get them there, be sure to know your size, as there is no returns. I sized up in the leggings as I don’t like anything with compression tight. For size reference- I am 5 foot 9, 122 pounds and sized up one to a med.

Fall Festivals

I plan to go to a farm nearby this month to pick pumpkins and try the corn maze. I can’t find my way out of a paper bag, so someone else will have to lead the corn maze! We are headed to a Fall festival at Raylen Vineyards this weekend for Dogs and Drinks. Its a festival where there are lots of dogs and dogs that are up for adoption. I love to support this event.

Spooky TV

I am not a horror fan really, I would just spend my time with my hands covering my face at a horror movie. I don’t even think I have seen all of Halloween!

I did watch “Malignant” , a creepy horror film that was described in one word, by author, Steven King, as “Brilliant.” So, being a Steven King fan, I had to see it. There was some gore I couldn’t watch, but the story was interesting.

I do like haunted house stories though, and really enjoyed – The Haunting of Bly Manor. and the subsequent, The Haunting of Hill House. Both were very good! So, if you are looking for a haunting, you might check those out! They came out a few years ago, so they aren’t new.

and.. Halloween!

Dressing up the pups! They are such good sports! I am considering Princess Leia for Truffles, but if not, they will both be Ewoks!

If i can, this may be in Truffles future. Hey, we call her “Princess Truffles”!

Here were my little Ewoks 2 years ago.

What activities or things have you been enjoying in October?

Id love to hear from you in the comments.

Have a great weekend!

Jess xx

Here in Central Florida, our leaves don’t change. We have been having some gorgeous mornings and evenings, but still 85-90 degrees during the day. I’ve been thinking of taking a trip up to the Panhandle, or even into Georgia to see the changed leaves, wear a sweater and to go thrifting. Hehe! Also, got to try out that gnocci! Looks delicious! Happy October!

I so want to make pumpkin or squash soup this year but PC is a meat eater of the first order. What meat could I add to it? Sausage? This sounds divine and looks lovely and fallish. I am hosting a chili-soup-stew recipe swap and blog hop on 10.26. Would love to have you join me. You could add a link to your recipe to my blog FB page that day. Or if you want to join the blog hop, holler.

Love the costumes on the pups. My daughter is getting a new pup in a few weeks. We are all super excited. It comes housebroken. Thank goodness.

All the cozy stuff in October! That gnocchi looked so good. I love all the haunting and scary movies so I’ve been searching for them, saw both of those and really liked them. I’ve been doing some shopping too – I’ll have to tell you about it!
