22 Things You Don’t Know About Me

Happy Friday friends!

It has been a bit tougher several weeks as I have been getting dry needling to try and get back on track after Asheville. It really is my saving grace. If you don’t know about dry needling, read HERE. It is not accupuncture, but helps release muscular knots in the body. Before you know it, the Holiday season will be upon us, and there will be Gift Guides and Black Friday Sales etc.. on blogs, so i thought I  would do something fun and share a bit more about myself, besides my love for Fashion. Several bloggers have shared things about them self recently, and i thought i would join in!

( a winery in Taos)

  1. I LOVE True Crime,  Discovery ID and  MIdsommer Murders ( love BBC mysteries) I have seen every episode, bring back the old Tom Barnaby!
  2. I am addicted to chewing gum. I buy packs in bulk on Amazon.
  3. I used to smoke in college. I was in a blues band, my boyfriend at the time smoked Camels, and so did I. I guess I thought it looked cool hanging from my mouth as I played bass, but quit after walking up a hill to my apt, as was huffing and puffing.
  4. I was once robbed in the middle of the afternoon, when I worked at Original Cookie Company. He had some scruples though, and bought cookies first! ( needless to say it was my last day!).. I was 17.
  5. I have thought about getting a “photorealism’ tattoo of my boy Gisbon or a red headed pin up on my arm as a jazz guitarist.. but since EDS is a connective tissue disease it isn’t recommended!
  6.  I used to hate getting blood drawn as i was afraid of needles. Now, I get “dry needled” every other week. It is a temporary solution but helps me function and I talk through the appt for a diversion. 🙂
  7. I used to leg press 350 IBS. ( before EDS)
  8. I was training for a mini triathalon a month  before I experienced symptoms and was diagnosed with EDS.
  9. I used to love riding motorcycles with guys from school.
  10. My nickname in middle school was “Abby” short for Kareem Abdul Jabbar, needless to say I was the tallest girl in my class.
  11. I took an acting class several summers ago and have this one regret that I didn’t get into it sooner.
  12. I love to camp-nothing like the smell of a campfire and being out in nature.  I have to be near the bathrooms though, as I have a very weak bladder.
  13. I was engaged in college before I met my hubby. He was in Music School at Duquesne with me and I thought we would marry and I would name our child, Stevie Ray, after my favorite guitarist, Stevie Ray Vaughn.
  14. I love to “rock out” and sing to all my favorite rock bands.in the car. ( Journey, Def Leppard ( Photgraph-Best album!), Metallica, Soundgarden, Bon Jovi… the list goes on) Remember HeadBangers Ball?
  15. I’d love to join a swing band. ( I love all of the old big bands and Benny Goodman..Cab Calloway, Louis Prima, and current-Cherry Poppin Daddies, Big Bad Voodoo Daddies
  16. I hope to travel each year and see more of the world. I get scared on planes, but the valium and wine do help!
  17. I don’t like kale.
  18. I have Gastroperesis. My digestive system moves very slow, so when i waiter asks if i want desert, i usually say, can you come back in 3 hours? )( hehe)
  19. Ive always played sports. Growing up i played hockey in our driveway with my bro and his friends, football, kickball. I was on a softball team, played basketball, and got into weightlifting. With EDS, I had to modify what I do, which really took some getting used to at first. i walk now, and swim in the summer.
  20. I love Falafel. 🙂  My dad used to make a joke and say “After you eat it, you feel awful” But he was the one that got me loving it!
  21.  I don’t like beer. Charlotte now has quite a few breweries and i “try’ to like beer.but I’ll stick to being a wine snob! ( ill let my hubby enjoy it)
  22. I completed the MS 150 Bike Ride with my hubby  at Mrytle Beach. Lots of bike riding, and i have the medal somewhere…

( great time with the pups in Savannah, no makeup… which I enjoy from time to time)

Have a great weekend! and thank you for your comments, they make my day!

Thanks for linking up your awesome outfit post at the Top of the World Style linkup party. Thanks for sharing these. Be happy that you are tall. You don’t have to wear heels to be eye-on-eye height with male colleagues. LOL.

I’m totally addicted to falafel – even more so since I became fully vegetarian. You’re a rock chick like me! I’ve always loved rock music – especially AC/DC! I’m really into a band called Royal Blood at the moment, they have a great, raw sound. That’s such a lovely photo of you with Gibson!

AH Emma, another falafel fan! I could be vegetarian if i didn’t love fish and seafood so much! Thats great though. Yes, I am a former headbanger, rocker myself! i love all of the bands from the 70s 80s, rock bands and taught many AC/DC tunes on guitar. Ill have to check out the band you mentioned. thanks Emma! xx

Julie, thank you! I am glad you enjoyed it. it is ok, I have made progress in 10 years, which is what I can hope for. I make do, but it was an adjustment in regard to sports. Yes, this was 2007 in October i was training. xx

Thanks for sharing Jess. It’s always good to close up the miles between your readers and yourself and this kind of post serves to do that beautifully. I would love to travel more too, but my husband suffers with leg clots and therefore has to be very careful nowadays. I love the last photo of you, maybe because we can see your eyes.

    Take care,
    Anna x

I like to wear even less makeup or be makeup free in trips, it is refreshing! i truly can’t see well with out my glasses, so it is a rarity! xx

Love that outfit on you! It was so nice to read more about you too – didn’t know you were so into music! 🙂

This is going to sound really silly, but I had no idea dry needling was different from acupuncture! There’s a local place I go to every now and then when my pain gets too much (I have abdominal issues post babies and it causes problems in my back, neck shoulders etc.) and one time I went and explained the pain and he said you need dry needling, I just agreed and wondered why they’d call acupuncture that (as I’ve had acupuncture in the past, ha!). It really did work wonders for my muscle pain though, I keep going back to that place. I get a different treatment every time pretty much but it always works!

Hope you are having a lovely weekend! We are getting our family Santa photo done tomorrow, gotta get a move on with my Christmas cards, haha! 🙂

I also have my certification and degree in Music ED and taught in the classroom. i love rock, jazz… so fun getting your Santa pics too. I didn’t know you went for Dry needling either, that is so good that it helps you! xx

How wonderful to know these things about you Jess! I can see you seeing somewhat badass in a band ! You are still stunning, and you look even more gorgeous without makeup!

I also struggled with gastroparesis but now that my autoimmune disease is stable, that Is also better. Steroids definitely help put weight on and increase appetite. For dessert, I take it home in a doggy bag.
Sorry that you can’t get your tattoo, but I agree it is contraindicated with your EDS.

The more I know you , the more I love you! Stay well !

Aw Elle, you really put a smile on my face! I feel the same about you my friend. We should meet sometime in the future. Yes, the blues band i was in was my 3 friends from music school, so we had a good time together. I played a hot pink BC Rich bass, hhaha! i take a med for my Gastroperesis and GERD, and it is better now that I have come off a couple meds that were slowing down my system. Yes, thank goodness for doggy bags! Elle, if I could i would wear lipstick only, but i prefer a light makeup look. ( that takes under 10 min!)
Same to you, take care! xx
