Today I am sharing with you how I combined grey, brown and navy in an outfit.

Combining brown, grey and navy

You may not think all neutrals are created equal, but rest assured, these combinations make for an interesting look and can be paired together .  It all started with these knit loafers from one of my favorite companies, Vivaia. I initially wanted to order them in grey, but my size was sold out, so navy was my next choice. As a neutral, it would go with anything and look great with jeans

I knew i wanted to create a tailored look, so I styled these plaid Mango trousers in grey, as I loved the combination of grey and navy. These trousers also have a subtle brown threading in the plaid, so I paired it with another Mango piece, this lightweight brown sweater.

Combining neutrals doesn’t have to be mindboggling, and since these are all neutral shades, they work well together. My light grey Rebecca Minkoff bag adds to the tones in the outfit as well.

Wearing Brown and Grey Together

I think one of the keys here is to have similar tones- a lighter grey with a lighter brown, or a darker grey, ( such as in this case) with a darker brown. This muted shade of grey works with the dark brown as there is contrast. That is part of the key when styling brown and greys together. The pants are a cooler tone, the browns are a warmer tone.

Adding that Third Color

Navy works quite well with this mix, having this in an accessory like shoes gives the outfit more interest, and the loafer is always a great choice when wearing a tailored look. The braided detail adds texture, and the color adds depth to the look.
