06 Jul Over 40 : Wearing a Romper
Hi ladies
I hope everyone had a great 4th of July. We stayed at home, had a great dinner, drinks, and worked to keep our little girl, Truffles, calm. ( If you have yet to read my blog: Truffles is shih tzu as it would be a silly name for a little girl!)
Today I am wearing a shorts romper. Perhaps there are discussions on the internet about the inappropriate nature of wearing said garment over 40, but I don’t usually listen to those “rules” and just wear what I feel comfortable or confident in wearing.
I do remember the last time I wore a romper was probably around 20, and I don’t think I felt comfortable then. But as time goes on, sometimes we feel more comfortable in ourselves, and I remember seeing a romper on Nora of Jacket Society, from the Loft, that I really liked. A smart black and white patterned number, she added bright pink blazer to the look, it looked great.
I think to wear a romper 40+, one has to decide what length they feel comfortable with. There are plenty of rompers out there with shorter shorts, and ones such as this were the shorts are a little longer, making it more comfortable for many ladies. Styling the romper can be fun, and made casual with sandals, espradrilles, slide sandals, pointed flats depending on what look you are going for. I mention later that I would dress this up with a fitted blazer, perhaps white or olive, perhaps add some multilayered strands/chains for a necklace. Plenty of ways to style if you want to look more dressed up. Casually, this is not far from what one would wear if they wore sepe
rates, shorts and a tank/cami. If you like longer lengths, I would go with a romper with perhaps longer shorts or try a jumper. Experiment! It is often fun to try things out of one’s comfort zone.
I am wearing this rust patterned romper from H & M, as when I first saw it , I decided to add more earthy colors, ( olive greens, rust, gold, brown) in my closet, and the unique pattern appealed to me. If one typically wears shorts, it is a kind of premade shorts/tank combo one would wear anyway, another easy styling outfit! I think part of the key is length, and I am fine with my legs. So, I paired this with these cool suede like rust tan fringe sandals ( Yes, I have these in black and buy things in more than one color) my cognac Rebecca Minkoff bag, and some original bronze leaf earrings ( metal handmade ones by an artisan in Charleston) and my bronze dipped real-leaf necklace. Kind of a nature-boho feel to this look.
It was quite hot this day, so I wore the romper as is, but on a cooler day I would pair it with a white blazer, or another fitted jacket you may see in the future.
Do you wear rompers?
I am excited again to see you tomorrow for a special post on #TURNINGHEADSTUESDAY Fashion link up tomorrow. ( a Hint: there is a Birthday involved) Hope to see you all there!

Posted at 09:50h, 14 JulyI know I’m a little late to the party here but yes into my 40s I still wear rompers. I think the key here is patterns–I don’t think I could get away with solids.

Posted at 10:26h, 14 JulyHi Susan! I think wearing a romper can certainly look as if you are wearing a cami and shorts. The key for most things is fit. Whether it is patterns or solids, how the romper fits will make the wearer more comfortable in it no matter the age. An alternative to wearing the romper on its own is how a shared a blazer or for a more casual look, a kimono over the romper would look great too. x

Posted at 22:01h, 24 JulyI haven’t been brave enough to wear a romper yet, but I have one in my shop that I’m dying to test drive! I love the look of shorts, heels and a blazer but that is the one thing that I think would elicit a lot of raised eyebrows at my office … but I may work up the courage to try!

Posted at 10:31h, 25 JulyI say go for it! I bought another I plan on wearing soon and dressing it up with a blazer etc. I think it is a matter of just choosing a length of the romper comfortable for you. It really is just like wearing shorts and a tank. f you dont feel comfortable at the office, test drive it out for a lunch or weekend ! Thanks for the comment! x

Posted at 10:48h, 13 JulyOh, I so tire of people telling us older fashionistas what we should or shouldn’t wear. I don’t listen to any of them. Yes, I love rompers, and they are no different than wearing shorts and a top except they are connected, so why shouldn’t I wear them? I posted my romper look last week Friday if your interested…and I’m over fifty!
I love the color and print of your romper. It is very flattering on you!

Posted at 14:12h, 06 JulyYou look adorable in the romper – I had one back in the 70’s when I was in my early 20’s… part of the “hot pants” look of the time. I think I would totally embarrass myself if I wore one now in my 60’s! But you go for it girl – looks great on you!
