03 Feb POLA Whitening with First Impressions Dentistry
Hello Friends,
Yes, this is a different post! No elegant outfit, styled hair or fashion trends today. I am going to be talking about my experience with the office of Dr Jennifer Wells and First Impressions Denistry, a dentist’s office in Kannapolis, NC. I live in Huntersville, NC, so this was only a 40 minute drive to their office. *This is a Sponsored Post as I was gifted the POLA whitening service, take home treys and gel in exchange for this post all opinions are truthful and my own
Back in the summer, I was contacted by their office to see if I wanted to try POLA Whitening, an in-office whitening procedure that is done in a professional setting. POLA is a tooth whitening system which has a higher level or peroxide to whiten the teeth. According to the POLA website, “When a whitening product is applied to the tooth, it breaks down into water and oxygen ions. The oxygen ions enter the enamel and attack the long stain molecules to effectively break them down to be short and colourless. These short and colourless molecules are then naturally removed from the tooth by saliva. The intensity of whitening is related to the number of oxygen ions available and the length of time they are on the tooth.”
I do drink about 1-2 cups of coffee a day, but you know how much I enjoy my red wine! Since I am not willing to give that enjoyment up, I knew this was great timing, as my teeth were looking a bit dull. Having dull or slightly yellow teeth can age you, so I felt I would benefit from this treatment. I wasn’t looking for “Hollywood white”, because let’s face it, I believe most celebrities teeth are vaneers! Anyhow, I did think I could improve them to a whiter more natural shade.
As we drove to Kannapolis, I was excited, thinking about the process and ending up with whiter teeth. My teeth weren’t “bad”, very yellow or stained, but they looked a bit dull and the whitening would certainly brighten my smile. I have used home products and whitening strips before, but I knew this would be altogether different as the percentage of peroxide was 32%, which is much higher, ( home kits are usually 18-22% peroxide).
When I entered the building, which used to be a former bank, now turned dentist office, I loved the new-fresh updated and modern decor throughout the building. The rooms all had personal pictures of the hygenists and family, puppies and added a wonderful touch to feeling at ease there I was given “the Grand tour” and saw the new technologies that they had, from a x ray machine, lab, and office space.
I met the staff, and was going to be with Amy, the dental hygienist, who was very down-to-earth, easy to talk to ( although I couldn’t do as much talking) and careful throughout the process. She explained the procedure to me in detail, and step by step, so I would know what to expect. I met Dr Jennifer, who explained the POLA Whitening process, what results I may receive and answered my questions She explained that some people’s teeth stain more yellow, others more brown or even grey. I do drink coffee, drink red wine and take medications, all which can effect the color.
Amy first explained she would be putting a large plastic mouthpiece to hold my mouth open, and then be applying a protective gel along the gums as to aid in sensitivity and help protect the gums from discoloration/burning that may occur. Amy explained that I would be whitening in 3 sets of 8 minutes and that I would need to tell Amy if, because of sensitivity, I couldn’t go beyond the first session. I was determined to go all 3 sessions and felt just a bit of tingling and burning of my tongue in the first session. I did do all 3 sessions, but was glad to be done, as my jaw was a bit sore.
Roy, my husband was there, talking pictures and getting a “kick” out of the fact that this was in no way a glamorous one! I had a plastic mouthpiece used to hold my teeth open and spread out! and a sponge block I was to bite down on to hold everything in place. It was tough! Amy said, “This might be the longest 8 minutes of your life” At the time, it did feel a bit long, and I was also noticing my mouth muscles twitching, so that was a bit distracting! I want to add that the service was “top notch” as I felt very taken care of, my questions answered. I enjoyed meeting everyone.
The only sensitivity I experienced was in the evening of the day I received the treatment. I was told to take ibuprofen and that it would go away. It truly was not bad, as I find that I don’t have much of a sensitivity issue, and was gone the next morning.
This is the Before picture on the left, and realized that I should have taken it front facing forward, however you can see a bit of dinginess in my teeth. This was the day of before the whitening procedure. The picture on the right, is the after. This was taken 2 days following the procedure as I returned to pick up my whitening trays and gel. I am happy with the results!
I truly enjoyed meeting everyone at First Impressions Dentistry, as they made a great “first impression” on me! If you are in the Kannapolis, Huntersville, or Charlotte area, you might want to pop in to see them. They are also ahead with the latest in dental technology.
Have a great weekend and smile! 🙂

Posted at 09:26h, 03 FebruaryMan, you had a fabulous result Jess!!
As a retired dentist, I always feel that whitening is one of those procedures that can be beneficial for almost everyone!! It’s relatively easy and not painful!!

Posted at 09:41h, 03 FebruaryThank you Jodie! That is high praise coming from you being a former dentist! I have the trays now and will whiten once every 2 months or so, as they help as well and it was a great experience. I do think it is one thing you can do. It wasn’t painful , just a little tough keeping my mouth open for 8 mn! ha. x

Posted at 09:02h, 03 FebruaryThank you Nancy! Yes, it was a great experience. The trays work quite well also. You can have your dentist make a mold of your teeth for trays and then buy the gel syringes to do at home as well. xx
