Soft Surroundings – Fall Preview- Anais Maxi Dress and Slip

Oh Soft Surroundings, you hit this one out of the park for me. Flowy fabric, button down detail, dark florals in gorgeous rich fall colors. Yes, Yes and Yes! I have been wanting to add some dark florals in a maxi or midi style for Fall, so when I saw this on the front cover of the pre-Fall catalogue and on the website, I fell head over heels!  This dress, the Anais Maxi dress can be styled in more ways that one, and you will see me style it again in colder weather. This dress was gifted to me by Soft Surroundings.

The Weekend

On another note, I was very glad I took this week’s pictures ahead of time, since we have been in the house since Thursday due to high winds and rain from the Hurricane. My prayers were with everyone in its path. We ended up taking the pups for a longer walk on Friday before the wind and rains hit. My girl Truffles was going to have a long weekend ahead of her.

I spent some time doing some binge Netflix watching of Season 2 of Osarks. It’s a good show, but the chemistry between Wendy and Marty isn’t quite believable. I do watch it for the “Ruth” character, she is quite colorful and certainly more dimensional of a character than Marty Byrde ( played by Justin Bateman).

I was at least productive with all the time in the house, I did get alot accomplished. I worked on the blog, cleaned and organized my closet for Fall ( that’s quite a task!), and played my guitar for the first time in 10 years. I love the tune, “Man Who Sold the World” by Bowie and later done by Nirvana. I need to work on getting my calluses back!

WAYS TO WEAR THIS DRESS

This dress, has a beautiful light and soft feeling, and I love that it is a shirt dress in style, and has a beautiful lace trimmed slip underneath. I thought, when I tried this on, I could wear this several ways.

  • I have a black slip from one of my sheer dresses I could wear under this slip- making it a slip dress. Adding a long cardigan or duster over top, in one of the rich Fall shades would keep the modesty and give this a whole other look.
  • Wear the dress open over dark denim .
  • Wear the button down dress over another colored slip dress- say, a rich burgundy velvet.
  • Add the buttoned layer over a solid colored jumpsuit.
  • Add a pair of block heeled booties ( I have black and some red velvet) and a moto jacket for layering.

These are just various ways I could style this. My nephews are now Eagle Scouts, and we will be traveling to PA this month to celebrate their achievments. I am going to bring this outfit to wear for the event.

Soft Surroundings Review

The Outfit

This had kind of a Penny Dreadful feel to me, the dark flowers in romantic rich colors and flow of the dress. One of the staff at Soft Surroundings asked if i ever wore my hair up. I could see that with this dress.. and perhaps next time a vintage necklace that would add some additional charm to this look. This dress is an XS which is my size at Soft Surroundings. One of the things I like about the fashion, is that sizing is consistant. I wear an XS in everything they have sent- from tops, to jacket and dresses.

I wore my lace fillagree necklace, a bold piece, after not wearing many necklaces in summer. This was the perfect piece to play against the lace trim of the dress.

I also love this Tranquil Garden Shirt that caught my eye in the middle of the store. You could wear it with leather leggings or skinny jeans and booties for a stylish look.  It was funny, as i tried on this top at the store, when I went for my makeup session in Charlotte, and a woman in the dressing room bought it after trying it on and seeing it on me. 🙂

Also love this midi dress, with its pretty Fall colors and print! This floral topper is so pretty too, love the shades of browns and rust.

I love the lace trim at the hem of the slip. Just gorgeous!

Have a great day and see you tomorrow for TURNING HEADS TUESDAY LINKUP!

We have strong winds crossing through the uk today but thankfully they are just gales now and not the destructive hurricane it started out as. Isn’t it fab getting your wardrobe organised!? I need to do mine again. Love your outfit – black florals are fab for Autumn xx Maria

I watched the first season of Osark and could only manage half of the first episode of season 2. Bateman is LAME!!! Seriously. Terrible. I’ve started watching Outlander and I’m really enjoying it. You might like it.

I love the lace trim on this dress.

      Hi Suzanne
I know what you mean.. haha. He is just so flat in his performance. I do love shows where I care about the characters, that is what makes me keep watching. Ill have to see about your recommendation. Thanks! glad you like the dress. xx

Jess, love this look. The epitome of romantic fall fashion. I’m a fan of Ozark too. With you on Marty and Wendy. They’re like the cog in the machine; purely functional. And, Ruth… well, she’s the main reason I watch the show. The very definition of “jolie lade.” I can’t take my eyes off of her. Great future ahead, no doubt.

What a gorgeous dress on you Jess and I love all the suggestions for ways to wear it! I’m glad you were productive over the weekend while stuck inside. We love Ozark but I’m with you – Wendy and Marty are not a believable couple – no chemistry there. We are hooked though and just can’t believe how crazy their lives are!
I hope the sunshine returns soon and boy, all the people who are flooded and without homes, gosh, my prayers are for them as they rebuild.

Thank you Kellyann! It was on the cover of the Soft Surroundings catalogue and the first dress you see on the site. I couldn’t resist! Ozarks is still entertaining and boy, Darlene is evil! I think it would be so difficult living on the coast and worrying about hurricanes and rebuilding. xx
