25 Aug Spotlight On- Over 40 Blog: Vanity and Me

Hello Ladies

As summer goes, there are summer vacations and less of a hurried schedule. It has been a few months since I posted my series: Spotlight On. If you are unfamiliar, and are a new reader, I select an Over 40 Blogger to highlight and interview. It has been fun to get to know other ladies in this blog world, and find out a bit more about their style. I would like to think I have a come a long way since my Metallica T-shirts and black pants. ( Although concert tees are trending now!)    Anyhow, I am going to introduce you to my friend and fellow blogger, Laurie, of Vanity and Me.

2. How did you begin your blog, were you influenced by other fashion bloggers?

I read a magazine about a fashion blogger and I thought it was such a fantastic idea. I saw it as a challenge, I do love a challenge! I had never even sent an email before, so this was a huge step into learning all aspects of how to use a PC.

3. You have been to several fashion shows in an intimate setting. Tell me about one of your favorite designers, what did you like about the fashions?

I have loved all the fashion shows and events I have been to since blogging. I have to say the JD Williams show was full of what I would love to wear. But Agnes Klapput is so talented. Her creations are like art.

4. You post about beauty and fashion. Tell us about 3 of your favorite beauty products.

My three beauty must haves for me are Elizabeth Arden eight hour cream, Estee Lauder night repair and Estee Lauder foaming cleanser. Sounds a bit boring, but if I could choose only three it would be those.

5. Do you think women should “grow old gracefully” or try and use anti-aging profducts to look younger. Explain. 

I think we should age gracefully but look after our skin to keep that youthful appearance as long as possible. I am not a fan of botox or fillers.

6. Would you be interested in a capsule wardrobe? If so, what pieces in your current closet would you have to keep? If not, why?

Yes, I love the capsule wardrobe idea. If I had to keep certain items, it would have to be trousers and jeans for me. Being petite and finding the right fit can be a task ! I tend to wear mostly classic items I re-wear over and over anyway. It’s the cheaper in and out of trend items I will not be keeping.

7. You have had some lovely collaborations this year. Tell us about one of your favorite companies you worked with. 

I have been very lucky with collaborations this year ! One of my favourites has to be my nude court shoes from Pretty Small Shoes. I have small feet at 2 1/2 -3  Sandals are ok in a size three, I can get away with those. But court shoes are really hard to find .  Or were ! should I say.

8. Your style is quite elegant and you are petite. Is it difficult to find petite clothing that you love? What tips can you give petite women?

 My tips for petite women ? Keep looking to find that perfect fit. Alterations can make a huge difference too . I often have things taken up at my local cleaners. I think Knee length is best for skirts and dresses, as is monochromatic dressing. I don’t colour clash too much, I think it makes me look shorter. I also prefer fitted clothes, the baggier they are, the shorter I become ! 

9 What are some pieces you are looking forward to wearing or buying for the upcoming Fall 16-17 season?

I am really into the culottes that are around at the moment. I will definitely be wearing those. I am trying to build my winter classics with Grey’s and brown’s and steering myself away from black. Black just doesn’t suit me anymore. As I age it’s just making me look washed out !

10. What do you look forward to in blogging for the next year?

look forward to meeting more friends in blogosphere in the next coming year. Also, I am still learning a lot, which gives me a buz. I am thinking of joining a photography class. I need to polish up on my photography.
