05 Jun Statement Jewelry-How You Can Improve on a Casual Look
Hi friends!
I’m back from the relatives house and we had a good time. Lots of good food, company, and things to do. We saw a parade, went to a great restaurant, watched Memorial Day fireworks and had a cookout. It’s the 11 hour drive home that was a bit tough! I went to a wedding shower yesterday, had a lovely time, and was thankful we didn’t play some of the cheesy games like “Who could make the prettiest toilet paper wedding gown? !”Anyhow, I hope you all enjoyed your weekend and I can’t believe it is June already.
Today I am wearing a casual outfit. I’m not always in the mood to dress up, but I want to look stylish and put together. Who doesn’t own a pretty but simple top and jeans? I have several off the shoulder tops, but saw this one shoulder ruffled top at H&M and thought it would be great with plenty in my closet.
*This post is not sponsored. I just love their jewelry! 🙂
I love Sylca Designs jewelry. I have written about them before on the blog, as they are a mom and daughter team from Columbia, making unique earthy jewelry. I saw this ocean blue shell necklace and kept coming back to it. My rule is if I keep going back to look at something, I probably want to add it to my collection/closet. I love the rich blue tones and thought I had plenty it would go with. So the formula here is cute top+ denim ( whatever style you feel flatters you) +statement necklace/jewelry. Think of the jeans and top as a blank canvas and the jewelry as art.
I would love to find a bold silver bracelet to add to this as well. In addition to the necklace, I added texture with my crinkled leather clutch, my new ALDO lace white lace up espadrilles. ( Poshmark- $20! yeah, baby) All of a sudden the look becomes more than a cute top and jeans! Texture is always one of those style elements that takes an outfit from “That’s nice… to wow”! The ruffled lace texture, crinkled leather of the clutch, lace in the shoes and bold shell necklace all add visual interest to an outfit. If I wanted to add another piece to this look, I could add a light blazer for additional color and interest, but let’s stick to the basics for now! And lets face it, it is getting hot in the South!
Speaking of hot, there’s nothing like the feeling of sweat at the nape of your neck, so you may be seeing me try different hairstyles this summer. Ponytail, chignon, etc.
Outfit details: Top- HM ( like this one), jeans SFAM ( I like these), Espadrilles ( poshmark, like these) , jewelry, Sylca Designs, bag: Treesje ( navy clutch)

Posted at 09:25h, 05 JuneI have to agree whole heartedly Jess!! The accessories can make anything look fabulous!! In fact, that’s our them for Wednesday—ha ha! Great minds think alike!!
And that blouse is so pretty—does it feel strange at all to have one should covered and not the other? I’ve tried on one of these blouses, but I didn’t bring it home!!

Posted at 09:29h, 05 JuneThank you Jodie! Oh, that is awesome. Yes, great minds… I’m going to style this blouse more on the blog, and no it actually feels more comfortable to me than some OTS tops! I saw a poplin white one on Ann Taylor I would like to get as it goes with anything and is just such a fun item for spring/summer. xx

Posted at 03:15h, 05 JuneWhat a fabulous necklace! I saw yesterday on Greetje s blog(no fear of fashion) that she also had fantastic necklaces! You should really check her site and take a look at the IG of the person behind the accesories!

Posted at 09:27h, 05 JuneThank you Nancy! I have quite a few from this mother-daughter team as I love their unique styles. I will have to check out Greetje’s accessories as well. The blue really stood out and it was a color I didn’t have much of in my closet in regards to jewelry. xx

Posted at 02:08h, 06 JuneHey Jess, first off I’m loving those shoes – right up my alley. Secondly, I’m a big fan of this kind of jewellery too. I was fortunate to work with a friend of mine whilst travelling around SE Asia and she actually made similar pieces to that blue necklace. It was loads of fun putting those little creations together. I’m much more into this kind of bling now since I got back from my travels – rather than shiny diamonds and gold. The fact I’m totally broke at the moment probably has something to do with it mind.
I think the necklace works well with that white top and the earrings are a nice edition too. Great look and loving the one exposed shoulder. It’s flaunting that bit of skin whilst still looking sophisticated and tasteful.
