THT-Summer Fabrics- What to Wear in the South on Those Hot Days

I love a classic look that will keep you cool, and if you know the South, you know it gets H.O.T.

The Holy Grail of Summer Material- Linen and Cotton

As someone who has been living in North Carolina for 22 years now, I have become acquainted with what I need to wear on a hot summer day.

I’ve been influenced!

As soon as Kellyann shared this outfit, and looked great in it, I was clicking on the pieces. I bought these pieces over Memorial Day weekend, but they are still on sale! I love to wear them as a suit, but you could equally wear both as seperates. If you are in the South, you know what I mean about linen and cotton. They are must have materials, unless you live in your pool . 🙂

The Holland blazer, fits like a dream. I am wearing my normal size 4 here, so I would say it runs true to size. It is a blend of linen and cotton, so it will keep you cool during those summer months. The pants I bought in a 4 tall, as I needed the extra length and it’s recommended if you are 5 foot 9 or taller. They are also a wonderful cotton and linen blend, have pockets, and an adjustable waistband. They come in a multitude of colors, and I bought several pairs. Do you do that? Buy something you love in multiple colors? I bought the Light Sandstone, and am looking at the beautiful Loden Green.

I am sure you know by now, I am more of a dress girl. But in the coming months, you will see me style linen dresses, skirts and pants. I like to my Summer dressing easy!

They also have the blazer in a pretty pink called Sweet Briar.

I went a bit linen crazy this year, buying skirts,( Zara and Mango)  a dress, this outfit. I’ve built up a linen and cotton wardrobe for summer, so I can easily pick pieces and not stare at my closet with bewilderment when the time comes.

Let’s face it when you live in the South, you need pieces that don’t make you sweat the moment you step out the door. So, if you live in a Southern State, I think the only thing I would wear other than linen and cotton is a bathing suit!

How I Styled The Pieces

I wanted to add a bit of color or print to this look, so my leopard cami peeks out here under the blazer. I am wearing my Bruno Magli cognac sandals, carrying a camel Teddy Blake bag, and am wearing Baroque pearl jewelry. This would certainly be a dressier look, but could easily be dressed down as well.

For a More Casual Look

  • Try the suit with a graphic tee and white sneakers.
  • Wear the bottoms with a gauze blouse and slides.
  • Wear the blazer with a tee and white jeans
  • Wear the blazer over a sundress. Particularly when you go into a restaurant the air is on!
  • A linen tank with the pants and espadrilles.
  • Wear with a light tee, denim shorts and this linen blazer.
  • Wear the blazer with a striped tank and chinos.

So many ways to style these pieces, that I know you would get a ton of wear from them.

Happenings

I was so thrilled that I was able to go to Martha’s Vineyard, and we had a grand time! I carried my cushion everywhere, and several ladies were very inquisitive about it. Otherwise, I had a glass of wine to calm me down before flight, and we were there before I knew it. I’ll have alot of great memories of this beautiful sea town. ( And no I didn’t jump off the Jaws bridge in May! I would have gotten hypothermia!)

We will be going with family to Charleston in July, and celebrate my moms, my niece and my birthdays. As hot as it gets in Charleston in July, I know I will either be at the beach ( Kiawah, Isle of Palms) or at the Hotel Indigo’s pool! Another trip to look forward too.

I am looking to teach guitar from home, to supplement income. Boy, back in the day, you could put your phone number on a flyer and people would call. Now, you need a website, and apparently, one with a captcha, so no spam. It’s on my radar of something I have to do.

Do you wear linen pieces? Which color in the pants would you be drawn too, and casual or dressy?

It is a beautiful set and I can see why you love it so much! It looks great the way you styled it. I am not a summer fan at all but I still have to get out once in awhile and during those hot days, cotton and linen pieces are the best. Times have changed but it’s probably a good idea to have a website to advertise. It can be reached by so many people. And thank you, thank you for the feature! It’s always a surprise and a treat! I truly appreciate it Jess. Sending you big hugs!

What a gorgeous suit Jess, and you wear it so well. I know what you mean about being a dress girl, especially in the summer but it’s nice to have alternatives too.

Love this classic white summer suit Jess, and the tan accessories are so chic! Linen and cotton are the best for hot, humid days. Learning to play the guitar seems like a great indoor activity for summer break, I hope you get lots of students. Enjoy your week and thanks for the link up!

That is a lovely suit on you! I agree, linen is a great fabric in summer – I’ve thrifted a few linen pieces over the years and now I have quite a collection in my wardrobe!

Thank you for the link up Jess 🙂

Your story made me think of when I was 18. I made businesscards with my phone number, not even a mobile one back then, and put them in post boxes to get clients. I hope a lot of people want guitar lessons from you! You look amazing in that beautiful suit.
