Taking Black Column Dressing into Valentine’s Day

Black column dressing isn’t new, but it is a great way to get an outfit started for Valentine’s Day.

Black Column Dressing and Valentine’s Day Inspo

I had in mind a Valentine’s Day outfit, and I love the mix of black and red. It is a classic, as is, black, white and red, so if you are inclined to add white here, I encourage it!

Upon reading more about the combination of black and red, I came across a Novel that means just that, Le  Rouge et le Noir. This novel was published in 1830, was written by Stendhal, and is a historical, psychological novel.  Wiki

Red represents energy, power, which makes black a great backdrop for the color as well.

Here my outfit is textural, the blazer and the croc textured structural bag are first noticed, and the black column gives it structure.  I love texture and details, so the criss cross detail of the pants made this look modern as well.

The red blazer is from Misook, and the pants Joseph Ribkoff, both gifted. My bag was also gifted by Teddy Blake.

With Valentine’s Day near, I do love to wear red, but whatever you choose, might be indicitive of the “Holiday” as well. We usually just stay in, and will either order a nice meal, or cook something special. One year we had a wine tasting evening with hubby picking wines we had never had. That with truffles, of course.

I personally will just enjoy a nice meal at home with an excellent bottle of vino.

But, in case you go out, and enjoy wearing red, try this black column with red. It makes a statement.

And if you are thinking of Valentine Inspiration- wouldn’t it be wonderful if your significant other recited this, or perhaps one of his/her own?

Do you like column dressing and are you one to wear red for Valentine’s Day?

I feel like we all may have some black and red in our closet that we can wear together for this day, ( or any day) but I will link similar pieces below and in my LTKI shop.

I just love the back of your jeans too Jess…it was such a surprise.
I have been super surprised that I haven’t been wearing as much red lately, so I just remedied that. This is a gorgeous look.
