20 Dec THT- Last Minute Holiday Styling with Red and Black
Lots of good Holiday style inspiration out there and here. Yesterday, I styled a more non-traditional look, today I am styling a favorite combination of red and black.
i am sharing some last-minute Holiday styling with traditional black and red.
If you have been reading my blog for a while, you know that I love texture in the colder months. It really makes an outfit come alive. If you are still wondering what to wear, other than your Christmas flannel pjs, this outfit would serve you well, going to the relatives for dinner, and going to Christmas Mass.
A Christmas Poem
Before I get to the outfit, I love reading Christmas stories and poems, so I thought I would share this with you.
Love Came Down at Christmas
By Christina Rossetti
Love came down at Christmas,
Love all lovely, Love Divine;
Love was born at Christmas,
Star and angels gave the sign.
Worship we the Godhead,
Love Incarnate, Love Divine;
Worship we our Jesus:
But wherewith for sacred sign?
Love shall be our token,
Love be yours and love be mine,
Love to God and all men,
Love for plea and gift and sign
The Outfit
Its always fun to dress it up for the Holiday and wear something special. We would often go to a morning Mass on Christmas day, afterall, the Midnight Mass was tough for us as kids! My sister sat in the front pews and was snoring! We just are not late-night people!
I sometimes think the meaning of this Blessed Holiday gets lost, due to the commercializing of the Season and focus on getting everything done. I have always love giving gifts, so for me that is such fun, but I also love to reflect on the Special day and enjoy it with family.
This look is one I would wear to Mass, to a family gathering, or a Christmas event. The red Mango sweater is a bit slouchy, but I loved the deeper red color and style. I did a half tuck, tucking it in at the waist in the front, and letting the remainder out. The lace skirt is from Ann Taylor and ages old. My Mango red double-breasted coat was bought a few years ago and the style is classic, and again, not a bright, bright red, which goes better with my fair skin tone. I take this coat out often (for N.C.) in December and January.
Since the sweater is a bit slouchy, you could wear a sparkly tank underneath, or a pretty black camisole, but I wear it as is. . The Bruno Magli black bag has seen a lot of action, and really is my favorite size these days. I have bigger bags, but this carries everything. The textured tights are back for this look!
See how I styled this red coat in THIS POST.
5 more days! Hard to believe, but I feel we got to really enjoy the season this year, with the tree up after Thanksgiving and all of the local activities. We are hosting the 23rd at our house for appetizers and drinks, as well as a drive around the neighborhoods to look at the lights. Love the guys down the street that have their lights timed to a music station, it’s pretty cool!
We will be spending Christmas at my brother and sister in laws house, and I look forward to the hot tub! Although I will be making a mad dash, as it is supposed to be very cold. My hubby and I are doing a Christmas brunch there and there will be quichesh, lox, (smoked salmon and bagels) fruit and such. Our drink of the year is the “Painkiller”. Very Apropos!
Are you a traditional type of gal when it comes to Holiday dressing? Let me know int he comments.

Looks like we are hosting two days in a row but I am most looking forward to hosting my parents and brother with a sit down dinner on the 26th. We are enjoying this week with no plans and lazy days. I love the different textures in your outfit and the color combo of black and red.
