THT- Light and Breezy – The Timelessness of a Linen Dress

If you are a regular reader, you know that over the past so many years, I have fully embraced linen.

The Timelessness of Linen

Just as we have embraced or accepted wrinkles on our faces, I have done the same with linen fabrics. I say its the characteristic of the fabric. You just have to go with the flow! If not, I may just have to end up a sweaty mess in the summertime.

I have actually over the last 5 years or so, started to develop a linen and cotton summer wardrobe. It really is a must in the summer, as here in North Carolina we get hot! Last year we had some real feel days of 100 degrees. So, until I feel free enough to go out on the deck in my skivvies, it will be linen for me!

Linen was used to wrap their loved ones once passed, in Egyptian culture, and is still worn today, for both its cooling qualities and the fact that it gets softer over time. Linen really is a part of our fashion history. It has been a staple for centuries, based upon its versatility and breathability.

One of My Linen Picks for This Year

Over the past year or so, I tend to check out a few stores more than others. You know, you know your size, how garments fit etc. So my go to shop is Mango. I spotted this dress in a sea of linen pieces, and the peachy tones and soft floral called out to me. I haven’t been purchasing florals as of late, and have been adding stripes and solids, but this was an exception.

Lengthwise, it is a midi dress and I love the fit and flare style as well. I picture it on a hot summer day, on vacation, or just out and about Charlotte. Linen is light, and it wicks away sweat in the heat. I would pair these with a number of sandals I have- cognac ones from Bruno Magli, these brownish tan croc sandals from Mango, or these Vaneli nude sandals I have on. I love the gold detail on the shoe as well, blending them into the peachy – brown tones.

I styled this look with brown tones in mind, gold hoop classic earrings (Monica Vinader) , a brown leather clutch from JJ Winters, and my Vanelli nude sandals. You could easily wear this look to an outdoor wedding this summer. Perhaps just a wrap for your shoulders would work nicely.

I will be doing a post with my linen picks for this year, so stay tuned for that!

May Snuck Up on Me

How about you? Is this year going at the speed of light? We have been dining out quite a bit lately, and I just love sitting outside. We’ve got to cool it a bit these next two weeks, as May 16th is our Martha’s Vineyard trip. I hope to share what I’ll be packing, who the heck Martha is, and some of our plans. You can follow me on INSTAGRAM, as I will be posting some things there, as opposed to the blog.

Do you have a linen dress or any pieces you get out year after year? Tell me about it in the comments ๐Ÿ™‚

That linen dress is gorgeous on you, Jess! The colours are perfect for your skin tone. For me, I’d need something a little brighter, but I love the shape, length and print of the dress. Those sandals are gorgeous too!
I’m a big fan of linen in the summer (I think our climate here in the Algarve is similar to yours) and have a few pairs of trousers and shorts. I must invest in some dresses though too!
    Big hugs

I love the look and idea of linen-but with kids I just get too wrinkly! Pre-kids I liked to wear it and I imagine I will wear it more as they get older. You rock it! That dress is stunning on you!

I can see why you love the dress! Like you I have not been wearing many florals until recently. Sometimes we need to step out of our usual style and add some new stylish pieces to keep it fun. I would love to see your other linen picks from your trip coming up!

    Cheers,
    Tania

Puh-leeeez come dress me!! I love your style so much. If I were tall and slim and could afford to, I would dress like you!! Just love everything about this look. Down to the way you just let the end of your fabric belt fall gracefully against the skirt of the dress. Beautiful clutch. Gorgeous colors on you. LIke many of the gals, I am not a fan of linen because it wrinkles so badly. But you wear it so crisply. Head of the class with you!!

There’s so much to love in this outfit but those studded neutral sandals just might be my favorite part!

Ooo itโ€™s a beautiful dress that has stunning details! Even better that it perfect for the upcoming season. I havenโ€™t quite boarded the linen train yet but I can see why itโ€™s popular. I have not been to Marthaโ€™s Vineyard but I have heard of itโ€™s beauty! Looking forward to what you think about it once you have returned from your trip.

Gorgeous linen dress, Jess! The style is so flattering, and the colors look beautiful on you. Linen is a great summer fabric, and a print like your floral helps to disguise the wrinkles. Enjoy your week, and planning your vacation trip!

I’ve enjoyed the cooler weather as I know it will be hot soon! Anything flowy is my go to in the summer. I might have one or two linen pieces in my closet but that is all!

What a beautiful dress, the colours are so appealing. I never liked linen, until I bought a blouse last year. It’s perfect to wear when it’s warm. Never thought it would make a difference.
