23 Jul THT- Over 50- Can You Wear A Backless Dress?
I say yes! Whatever you want to wear at 50 and beyond, just do it with confidence!
Olive Sundress
I am sure you have heard the messaging by now. Over 40, Over 50+ and wear what you want! The key to wearing what you want is confidence. If I wanted to wear a mini or micro-mini, I would, but I may not feel as confident in it, and it would show. My mom is funny, as I was telling her about the “barely there” skirts on some girls in Nashville, and she said, ” Well, you can’t wear that! You’re 56!”
Age is not about whether you can wear something or not, it is how you feel in it. You want to wear something that exposes a little leg, go for it, if you are crazy about your legs. Accentuate the parts you feel you want to accentuate. Love your shoulders? Go for a one shoulder top, or an off the shoulder dress. I laugh when I think about how when exposing your ankles was scandalous! Oh my!!
This eyelet dress called out to me, as it was a midi length, you could adjust the straps in the back for fit, and it is olive in color. The tour guide in Nashville really loved it. She told me she was used to see cutoff jean shorts, so it was refreshing. 🙂
Here I paired it with one of my favorite bags from Eric Javitz and my favorite espadrille sandals from Andre Assous. The sandals are older, so I will find similar shoes. Here is another option. These sandals are similar and on sale!
If you are not crazy about showing your back, yet love the dress, there are options:
- Wear with a tee underneath.
- Wear with a jacket over top. The olive color lends itself to Fall, so picture the dress with booties and a moto jacket.
- A light cotton cardi would be lovely with this dress as well. You would be covered in the back and yet still enjoy the style of the dress.

Life Lately
It’s been a very musical summer, with our recent visit to Nashville, and then last week seeing Sammy Hagar and the rest of the Van Halen band. Joe Satriani was one of my guitar heros and he played with such virtuoso that evening. Big shoes to fill with Eddie Van Halen! We went and met with my brother and SIL, standing, singing and dancing the whole time. I love Hagar’s voice and songs, ” I can’t drive 55″, ” Best of Both Worlds”, and Van Halen’s “Jump” even though it is a fan favorite and not the bands.
I am adding a few new guitar students to my roster and hope to expand the business a bit more. Other things I have been up to is working an event at a brewery for the shelter and selling raffles and merchandise, as well as volunteering there on other days. We got some new pups in and one is a huge 130 pound Great Pirenese named YETI. Love him!
How would you wear this dress? What part do you like to accentuate with your clothing? Let me know in the comments!

Posted at 07:29h, 24 JulySuch a lovely dress. I don’t think age matters when showing your back, one can be young and not have a nice looking back.

Posted at 23:18h, 23 JulyI think we should wear whatever makes us feel confident! I am such a sucker for eyelet, and I love the feminine fabric with the muted olive color. Great combo and it looks fabulous on you!

Posted at 19:15h, 23 JulyWell, this is just a spectacular look, Jess! I think you’ve nailed it…if you feel confident, you’ll look good. I don’t think we need to put restrictions on what to wear when. There’s so much more to worry about! Thanks for the link up!

Posted at 14:01h, 23 JulySweet sundress Jess, it looks great on you! And there are lots of options for layering, depending on what you want to show or cover. I agree with your philosophy of wearing what you like and what you feel confident in. Good luck with your guitar teaching classes, and thanks for the link up!

Posted at 12:21h, 23 JulyThe color and style of this dress suit you so well. Whether or not a garment is flattering to you should be the guiding consideration, not age.

Posted at 11:48h, 23 JulyI love the back on your dress! While I am making a point of wearing everything in my closet right now, there are definitely some things I like to wear more in the summer like my halter tops, my flowy pants and right now my new to me shorts. I definitely don’t mind showing off my legs, but usually try to wear things that minimize my belly.
