22 Nov THT- Shopping My Closet for Thanksgiving
This week begins the festivities, and I decided to shop my closet for what to wear for Thanksgiving
Thanksgiving
I’ve talked about my condition, (Pudendal Neuralgia that is) and currently cannot wear jeans or trousers as it irritates the nerve. My trousers are looking rather lonely, as several pairs were purchased for the trip to Italy. They just have to hang out some more and be a bit patient. Typically, I would wear a dress at Thanksgiving anyhow, as, who wants to wear pants or jeans and have to unbutton the button or wish they would have worn something looser.
I have many memories of Thanksgiving and having all of us around the large dining room table, ready to partake in the Feast.
My mom cooking all day and starting the turkey early on. No giblets, please! Dad helping out in the kitchen with the side dishes. ( I miss him!) and saying prayer before we ate or going around the table saying what we were thankful for.
Even though this year will be different, I will still be counting my blessings and think of all I have and remain grateful. We won’t be able to go to my moms in Pittsburgh this year, as 8 hours in a car is not possible for me at the moment. Heck, I sit for even 2 hours, and I am paying for it the next day. So, it will be a quiet one at home with a friend, my husband and I, and the pups.
We’ll still have our own Feast, with leftovers for the week, I’m sure. Thanksgiving wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without leftovers, right?
We are having smoked turkey breast, corn pudding, sweet potatoes, asparagus and homemade cranberry sauce. I am sure pumpkin pie has to be on the menu.
The Outfit- I Shopped My Closet
This is one such outfit I would wear on Thanksgiving- a dark floral dress, with a pumpkin-colored duster. A pair of my favorite boots with the mesh design. The brooch is vintage.
I have been doing more shopping secondhand this year and was thrilled to donate older or “not my style anymore” clothes to Susan Kanoff’s business, Uncommon Goods, where clothing is donated to help lower income ladies get into the workforce. I much preferred this over Goodwill.
I have talked alot about Poshmark, on the blog, and I find it quite fun to be on the “hunt” for a deal or find something I had been wanting for a great price, knowing I am shopping secondhand.
So, I go through the closet each season to see what is not my style, and what I am not wearing. I purge those things and may add “needed” items where there are “holes”.
So, I knew I want to wear a dress, and thought that of course, the pumpkin-colored duster would be apropos!
Wishing you all a Happy Thanksgiving!

Posted at 09:25h, 25 NovemberIt’s a bummer you won’t be able to visit your mom this Thanksgiving but yes, there’s still a lot to be thankful for. I love that you shopped your closet for this beautiful outfit. It’s the perfect look but also goes beyond the holiday. I also love the cause of Uncommon Goods and what they stand for. I’ll have to check them out as we only have a Goodwill in our neck of the woods!
