Trending Now- Mary Jane Shoes

Gosh, I had so many Mary Jane shoes back in the day. They are now making a resurgence.

Hi friends,

I hope you had a lovely weekend! I worked an adoption event for the dog shelter, and spoke to a few people about some of the dogs at our shelter. We were at Mooresville’s Scratch Kitchen. Of course, we had to eat there, and hubby was with our pups too. So, it was that and a busy cleaning, workday on Sunday, as my mom will be here in a few weeks looking at some of the 55+ communities. At 80 ,She makes me laugh, as she says, will I be around all old people?

Mary Jane Flats

Now, let’s get back to talking about Mary Jane shoes. You may have had them as a little girl and remember wearing them. I remember a pair I wore as a teacher. Not very fashionable, but they were cute and did the trick ( as far as comfort).

With many modern styles available, I have curated some of the favorite pairs I have been eyeing. If you are looking for a pair, Mary jane flats are certainly in the limelight right now, and they add a stylish and trendy look, particularly with trousers and jeans.

A Bit of History

From Scarlette Magazine:

“Though these shoes may be attributed to the experience of girlhood they were actually originally meant to be boy’s shoes called Buster Browns. This name originated from a comic strip in the early 1900s that featured a character named Buster Brown, who happened to wear the shoes. Buster was accompanied by another character, Mary Jane and over time the name of the shoe, as it took its feminine form became the Mary Jane.”

We all know the strap across the foot and often in patent leather, it certainly reminds me of my girlhood. I do love the different versions and fabrics that are offered now, if you are not a fan of patent leather. There is tweed, velvet, leather, metallic, leopard, you name it!

Here is a pair I am loving that has a small heel, and the rich red is so fabulous for fall! They are under $90 and with the pointed toe would look great with some trousers or a skirt for a updated Fall fashion look.

Sofft is a great brand with support and cushion, and just look at these plum velvet mary jane flats!

These gold textured Mary janes are textured and would add some interest to many looks. For example, want a classic look with a bit of an edge? Style a white button down, dark denim, and these gold mary janes for example. Add a leopard belt or scarf for more texture and pattern play. They are under $55.

A Former Post with Mary Janes Styled

Here is a post, years old, with me wearing the popular mary janes with a blog heel. What goes around comes around!

Do you have your eye on a pair? Do you remember wearing Mary Janes?

I’ve ALWAYS loved Mary-Janes, they’re just so girlie which is why it’s so bizarre that they started out as boys shoes!!
I love all the ones you’ve listed but my favourites are probably the ones with the…it gives them a slight rock chick edge that I’ve not seen before! I actually bought a pair of silver Mary Janes from Mango last year and I still haven’t worn them lol! Luckily I got them for a bargain in the sales!
    Big hugs
    Suzy xx
