10 Sep Turning Heads Linkup- Autumn Leaves Kimono from Soft Surroundings
Hello friends!
Isn’t it funny? I am now working on a song, a jazz standard called Autumn Leaves, and how fitting is it I wear this kimono for this post?
Soft Surroundings sent me this piece and the cardigan topper I wore yesterday on the blog. What else besides gold and rust-colored leaves could make you think of Fall?
Autumn Leaves
Even though this piece is still quite warm to wear in NC, it’s a great piece to have handy when those Fall time movies start showing. The theatres and restaurants are typically the only place I am cold these days,( Good ole Meno!) so I tend to bring a jacket or kimono. There are so many good ones coming! I’ve got to see “Judy”, the movie about Judy Garland, starring Rene Zellweger. I also want to see The Joker, not that I love seeing Marvel comic movies, but I like Joaquin Pheonix, I think he’s an interesting character!
Now, Back to the song- This was a song I learned in college, playing jazz guitar with my Gibson 335. Although it has a melancholy mood, it is a romantic tune.
The falling leaves drift by my window
The falling leaves of red and gold
I see your lips the summer kisses
The sunburned hands I used to hold
. “Autumn Leaves” is a popular song and jazz standard composed by Joseph Kosma with original lyrics by Jacques Prévert in French, and later by Johnny Mercer …Nat King Cole and many jazz artists through the years have played and sung Autumn Leaves. I used to listen to it in college, played by Joe Pass, an amazing Jazz Guitarist, who made popular the chord melody solo.
Have a listen to good ol Frankie-Boy!
Leaf Kimono by Soft Surroundings
You know I am a fan of velvet, as it always looks rich and elegant. I love the rich blue hue of the kimono and those fallen leaves that are the design. This must get you in the mood for Fall!
Ok, how about this. This leaf kimono, the Tamara Topper,a cup of pumpkin spice latte, Steelers football games.. and of booties and sweaters. How’s that for Fall?
I decided to pair it with a rust-orange lace cami I recently bought from H&M, Old Navy jeans, and my leopard pumps, for some added pattern. I also am carrying my Rebecca Minkoff satchel in cognac.
I love the blue-grey velvet that outlines the kimono and the gold threads that are strewn throughout. The leaves of brown and rust signify Fall and are colors that will go with nearly anything in the Fall season. Adding to the leaf theme, I am wearing gold dangling leaf earrings from Nordstrom. It comes in 2 sizes S/M and L/XL. I am wearing the S/M

Posted at 03:49h, 13 SeptemberHey Jess, I’ve been tied up all summer with work and sea swimming and at last am finding a bit of time to play catch up. What a great day to visit cos I just adore that Kimono! Those autumn colours suit us so well don’t they? I like the idea of a longer length top as the evenings being to shorten and we need to feel a bit more wrapped up in the cooler weather. Your colour combinations here are fab, and wow, what a lovely idea to add those shoes! Great styling as ever sweetie xxx

Posted at 10:34h, 13 SeptemberHi Anna!
I still am in awe that you swim like you do! I wish I had a pool to go to for my EDS as it is one of the best exercises. I can see leopard being paired with so much this season, its a nice change of pace too from the sold pumps. We wont have cooler weather here for awhile, as it is still summer-like in Sept here in the South. Thanks for stopping!

Posted at 22:36h, 12 SeptemberJess, I love the kimono. The texture is rich and I love the design, plus it looks perfect with the leopard shoes, so my style. Love that you play the guitar and write songs. My other half is a musician, so, I fully appreciate the work that goes into producing a piece of original work.

Posted at 11:04h, 11 SeptemberHi Judy
Thanks so much. There are kimonos out there for everyone! I bet you could. What I do like about them is that there are short lengths- to the hip, longer ( mid-length) and then long more duster types. They are quite versatile and can be worn in nearly every season, dependant on the material. I went to Duquense University for guitar and taught for many years, now I am getting back to it. Autumn leaves is one of my favorite tunes.
