Turning Heads Linkup – Orange Lace Shift Dress in the Dog Days of Summer

Morning friends!

It’s HOT. H-O-T! This week here in Charlotte is unseasonally hotter than it has been over the summer. Let’s put it this way,  I may have been smiling as I do for photos, but my body was pouring sweat like an new born infant crying for his mommy! The blaring sun and heat, along with the high humidity, made it challenging as I thought about how my hair was sticking to the back of my head. I think you get it, HOT. I took this orange Zara shift dress out of my closet as I haven’t worn it on the blog in awhile and I love the bright colors- the orange reminding me of the heat eminating from the  sun- as well as it being a bright, rich color that I love any time of the year.

We went to the Little Sugar Creek Greenway, in Charlotte, a popular walking spot in which the pups and hubby are familiar.  I am usually in dry needling treatment close by when they walk the greenway. We found a quiet spot for the photoshoot, and as the sweat is dripping down my back, wetting my hair, I thought about enjoying an alfresco meal afterward -We both enjoyed a Greek salad with many fresh vegetables topped by Scottish salmon. I also had a refreshing glass of Chilean Chadonnay. I wonder if when Sommielers are out an about, if they say they are “researching”? I’d like to do more “research” 🙂

Orange has become a more popular color this year as well as last. I used to not be a fan, and thought to wear orange on Halloween. Since then, I love orange and shades in the orange color spectrum as well. I was thinking how I might style this dress as a tunic in the Fall- wearing it over a pair of leather leggings and booties, or as is with a jacket, tights  and pair of OTK boots.

Its hard to think about Fall when it is 95 degrees outside, but wearing certain colors does take me there.

Next Week Blogging Plans Assignment- Soft Surroundings in Charlotte

There was a period of time in my college career, where I took classes in journalism. So, next week, you could say, I am “on assignment” for the blog, sponsored by Soft Surroundings! I am looking forward to it! Next week, August 22nd, I will be at the Charlotte Soft Surroundings store, where they asked me to review and try their makeup lines. I will be working with the Beauty Manager, talking about their lines of skin care, self-care and makeup lines, and report back to you in a blog post! They have initially sent me some of the Jane Iredell long wear lipsticks to try, along with Wunderbrow, a gel product for brows, to get my feet wet.. as Jane Iredell is one of the most popular lines for Soft Surroundings. So, if you are in the Charlotte area, and want to meet, I’ll be there at the Soft Surroundings store at 2 pm! I look forward to bringing you more about the Charlotte Store and the beauty products in an upcoming blog post sponsored by Soft Surroundings.

These “hot dogs” are thinking- These are the Dog Days of Summer!  It was a faster shoot because of the heat, and the doggies were given lots of water and then treats at Kid Cashew, where we found a shaded table outside.

The colour, the lace, the style – just perfect for you Jess! We’ve been having heatwaves and humid days too. I’ve felt the same, uncomfortably hot in some of my photoshoots.

    Thank you for hosting!

    Jess,

What a lovely lace dress! Orange is one of my favorite colors during the football season. (Clemson and Gator boys!)
You wear short dresses so well with your lovely legs!

How exciting for you to be doing the Soft Surroundings event in Charlotte!
I can’t wait to hear about it!

Yes it’s in the 90’s this week but I remember griping about how cold it was last winter!
I prefer hot to cold weather!

    Hugs,

I had to laugh at your description of how hot it is because, though not as funny, my post is lamenting the same “gripes”. You look fabulous in that red dress, as you always do and no one would know that you’re pouring sweat!

Thanks so much Andrea! Good to see you! I guess I can fake it pretty well in the heat… I have never been to Germany but my hubby was but I think it was Fall. Thx, I think it will be fun. xx

I do think orange is a wonderful colour, especially for red heads. Pairing it with leopard adds even more flair.

It has been very hot here too, mid 30’s which is is 95 F. I don’t really go outside when it gets that hot.

What a beautiful dress, Jess. You’d never know you were about to melt into a puddle looking at the pictures. The leopard is the perfect pairing, not only print, but texture wise. Have fun “on assignment” next week. I just found out we’re getting a Soft Surroundings in one of the shopping areas I frequent. They have such beautiful stuff. XO

Jess, I know exactly what you mean about orange. I always tended to shy away from it myself. But I’ve been seeing so many gorgeous variations of the color, that I’ve been rethinking. The color of your lace dress is one of them. Looks like a lovely deep coral shade. Love the cutout back. And pairing with the leopard print clutch was brilliant. Your photos are stunning, despite the heat. Like the saying “Never let them see you sweat” you certainly managed to look chic AND cool!
