Turning Heads Linkup- Ways to Wear a Black Blazer

Hello friends

“The Answer my friend, is blowin in the wind, the answer is blowin in the wind”… “Bob Dylan. It was one of the most windy days recently, and the question must be. how difficult is it to get pictures when your hair is flying every which way ? We made do, but it can be tricky! Our reward was lunch and a few glasses of wine at Corkscrew, one of our favorite haunts. We brought the pups, but it wasn’t the dog party that it was last Sunday when there were 8 dogs on the patio!

Today I am wearing one of those things that is considered a staple in every woman’s closet, the black fitted blazer. I love this one from Fabrizio Gianni as it has vertical dark stripes and fits quite well. I decided to pair it with a grey textured tee, raw edged denim and a pair of peachy pink snakeskin block heels  This is  a spring look or uniform that one can put together rather easily.

What’s so great about a black fitted blazer? I don’t wear black often, but I do love the versatility of this blazer. The cut is very streamlined and I can dress it up in many ways or put together a more casual look. Today I took out this textured grey  tee ( yes tee) and would either have worn a small neck scarf to add color near my face, or what I chose a metal stenciled designed necklace for a bit more edgy style.

What are other ways to wear a black blazer?

  1. Being that this is a fitted blazer, wear a looser shape in the bottoms. A cargo pant a little more slouchy would make a nice sillouette.
  2. A sexy streamlined and more edgy look can be created with this jacket and some waxed jeans. Im looking for an olive pair myself!
  3. A  classic pairing of a fitted blazer over a flouncy dress will give added shape.
  4. Denim is shown with all length and styles. why not pair a black blazer, white tee and step cropped denims with some embellished block heels?
  5. Wear a black fitted blazer with structured flat front shorts. I love the look of a jacket and shorts, taking them to a dressier look and not looking too casual.
  6. Traditionally with black trousers, this would be more of a suit look. However, to make it not look Dated, why not add a fun bright colored shoe and bag.

There are plenty of other ways to wear a black fitted blazer, let me hear how you like to wear them? Is this a staple in your closet?

Im also wearing a new pair of glasses from Warby Parker. Me and my cat eyes. I loved the frames on my other marbled blonde cat eyes, that I got the same ones in a warm tortoise. I get lots of people asking where I got my glasses, and they are the Holcombe, in case your interested.

I’ve got a ton of black in my wardrobe, but for some reason don’t have a black blazer! But if I had one I’m thinking I would try it with a flowy pair of print palazzo pants.I love how it dressed up your jeans/t look and the blush color (at least it looks blush on my monitor) in the bag and shoes is a great contrasting color with the outfit.

Hi Theresa! I used to have a ton of black in my closet, but I don’t anymore. I just think I personally fare better with color, but black is a classic so there are certainly ways to wear it. I love the idea of a fitted black jacket with palazzo pants! I don’t own any of those myself. I love to add a bit of color to black with accessories as times, glad you like the outfit!

Jess, I finally got here! A few days ago, I was trying to get on your site and it just kept kicking me off and saying the site was not available! So I hope everything was okay and it was just my silly internet or computer! You look amazing. I love the chicness of that black blazer with those frayed hem jeans. With the heels, bag and tee it is absolute perfection! Thanks for always being an inspiration. – Amy

I love to see this change of direction again this week Jess – frayed jeans and a tee! Wow, you’re rocking these and then to add a cool black blazer to the mix is a great move. I’m almost allergic to black in the winter months especially as it makes me look so drained. But the strength of your hair colour balances that out beautifully.

Thanks for the link up party once more x

Definitely a staple in my closet forever. I think I own every style – single-breasted, double-breasted, cropped, long, you name it, I probably own it. A black blazer, no matter the style, has always made getting dressed easy when I’m not in the mood to think too much about what I’m going to put on. Love how you’ve styled yours! So perfect with those cropped jeans and fab shoes!

Love the blazer – it’s really a versatile piece isn’t it? Would you believe I don’t actually have one in my wardrobe! I used to, but I lost weight and so I got rid of the ones I had. I really ought to splash out on a new one!

Jess thank you for hosting! I LOVE the black blazer with jeans look – TBH I think I’ve worn this outfit in various guises since the 80s…! For someone who doesn’t wear much black I always like to have a black blazer on stand-by, currently my longline boyfriend-style blazer is my fave. I love your jeans btw, the flare with the fitted blazer is perfect, especially with the pink shoes!
