29 Jan Wearing White Denim in the Winter – White with Neutrals

I hope you had a great weekend!

First, I want to say, thank you for offering suggestions for topics you are interested in hearing on the blog. I have made note and plan on posting some of those suggestions in the  coming months.  We went and saw Phantom of the Opera in Charlotte last night, and it was SO Good!! I love the music in Phantom, and the baritone voice of the man who played ” Phantom” is something i could listen to all of the time. I love it! The seats were wonderful, I knew the music well and it will be a memory I cherish. I won’t go into what some wore to the theatre, only to say Sports jerseys and plaid shorts are probably not the best bet! I think it is still an evening out where people dress up to see the theatre. Now.. on to the matter at hand.. wearing white jeans in the winter….

Today, I thought i would talk about wearing white in the winter. I am not a believer in “fashion rules”, those rules that say, what someone over 40 should and should not wear. Wear what you love and what makes you confident and happy! It is surprising to me that not wearing white after Labor Day was a fashion no-no at some point, as taking out the white jeans reminds me of the fluffy, wintery white snow we had this season.

I’ll be talking tomorrow about wearing color in the Winter, but today, i decided to pair my Ann Taylor white jeans with some neutral shades, patterns and textures. How do you dress in all neutrals without making it look blah? Well, i like to take textures or patterns from accessories; ie a textured or patterned handbag or scarf, adding it to the look.  I received this “blogger favorite” scarf from Nordstrom as a gift from my mother in law at Christmas. The leopard pattern will always work with any color i wear, it is a neutral.

This is one of those outfits that is a great ‘uniform’ if you love moto jackets. I will do a post on moto jackets, but in the meantime, a beautiful leather or suede jacket, great fitting jeans and booties are a relatively easy look to recreate and look put together.

I always loved the look of soft neutrals with white. This rust suede moto jacket was bought during the Nsale this year and I think it is my favorite of my collection. The rich spicy shade and sleek look without a lot of hardwear, makes it easy to wear with many looks. I pared it with an off white A.T. peplum sweater I have had for years, some vintage earrings I bought on our trip to Charleston a few years back, and added suede olive Franco Sarto booties. I wanted to add another rich color that was neutral with my booties, and olive green adds some warm tone.
