Blazers are Hot for Fall!

I have always been a blazer girl. I have checked blazers, plaid, solid, tweed, and velvet. Plaid, as I mentioned in my 5 Fall Trends Post for 2019, in a menswear style, is quite popular this season and I love it!

Tweed and Suede for Winter -post

Besides blazers, what else is going on this month? Well, I just sent my sister and hubby this link– and we have to pick one cocktail to make for Halloween! Kinda love the ones with dry ice that smoke!  We are dressing up this year with the pups, so just wait… but we thought we deserve a “treat” as well, why not a fun Halloween beverage? 🙂 I’m collaborating with a couple of brands this months, and in case you missed my Jambu post -read it HERE.  Since our area has exploded with microbreweries, there will be many Octoberfest activities in the works.

Blazers for Fall

What else is great about Fall Fashion? I love the colors of course, but the ability to layer and wear the 3rd piece, to me, makes it look very stylish and put together. Blazers can add more shape to a look and give it a more structured style.

Blazers originated from practical uses, wherein maritime the HMS Blazer, was the ship in which blazers derived.  The blazer was then worn as a “sports jacket” in may prep school sports.

Later, the blazer was worn so often, that the sporting reference faded away, and it became a garment worn for leisure and work. Now, I remember the 80s! The power suit for women or the suit with shoulder pads was quite popular! ( Thank goodness, the shoulder pads have not made a resurgence!)

Now, in 2019, we have many different styles for blazers. No longer, just the typical navy suit blazer, women are wearing blazers of various materials such as tweed, plaid, wool, and velvet.

This Fall season, the blazer is forefront in the fashion world and adds some style and finesse to an otherwise basic look. Take your dark denim and blouse, and add a plaid blazer. It becomes the focal point. I love the double-breasted blazer this season. A bit more of a masculine look, try wearing it with more feminine pieces -a floral midi skirt for example.  Try it with the same or similar pair of plaid pants. Add it to jeans and a turtleneck. Wear it with a pair of faux leather trousers.

Velvet may not be in the limelight this year, but was a trend in 2018. I have always loved the richness of the material, so I will wear different velvet blazers I have acquired ( much through secondhand) and style with denim, a pleated skirt, or over a printed floral dress.

Tweed has been around for quite a while, and many people associate tweed with Coco Chanel.

“Tweed originates from Scottish islands but has become a much sought-after material in modern day country fashion. The quintessentially British design became popular in the 19th Century, made popular by high-quality weaving,” wiki source.

Whatever blazer you choose for this Fall season, the fit is key!

I know what you mean about rain jackets. Maybe you can find a trench style rain coat ? I do love blazers and finally have snagged a plaid one that I am looking forward to wearing.

Thank you Cheryl! It was easy to include various jackets to shop for, as they are very on trend and popular. I love adding the 3rd piece as it gives a look a more polished look.

I love the angles and raw edges in your top blazer. I hope I can start wearing them again, now that I’m in a state that has cooler weather.

Thank you Kim! I wanted to share just a small fraction of some of my blazers, and recently bought a plaid blazer for Fall. That will be excited to wear some of your Fall items at your new place.

Blazers, jackets and cardigans are defo the way forward in Autumn, so long as it’s not raining – I need to get myself a rain mac for those days – but have never found them very appealing! Thanks for sharing. Jacqui Mummabstylish
