Faux Leather Pleated Skirt, Sable Velvet Blazer and a Pop of Color

IMG_9767

Hello Ladies… its almost the weekend! Is this week going fast?

Let’s just say hubby was being “artsy-fartsy” here with the sun behind my head. I suppose one has to experiment from time to time. I just love all of the leaf colors and it was a good day to take pics. I do find that some days I just have a tough time focusing on a task at hand, as I won’t get into it too much, but it has been the second time in  2 months since I have gone out for “fun”. EDS can do that to me sometimes. Anyhow, two of the best things that came out of EDS was Gibson and Truffles my pups.  Tell you more about them in the post, but I was in a faux leather skirt mood kind of a day. I have a few in my closet, and this one from Ann Taylor in a chocolate brown really lent itself to styling with some teal tones and soft velvet textures.

Anyhow, I won’t go into more detail, only to say progress is making way, but in regard to my pups, I made my PT laugh the other day, as when the weather gets a chill in the air, and it is cold in the late evening and morning, I LOVE to sleep all cozied up, bundled up with my robe and puppy curled up in a ball next to me. Gibson, my boy, is attached to me a bit more, Truffles a bit with my hubby. So, Truffles was always “top dog ” for 2 years before Gisbon came around. My PT and I were discussing a show she said she saw on 60 minutes about dogs intelligence, emotions, jealousy etc. I told her that Truffles misses her “prime real estate” ( the area right in front of Mommy ( me) where she used to curl up in a ball. Now it is Gibsons! So, the other day, she noticed he wasnt there and made a b-line right for the spot!  We have to laugh as they are such characters!

But I have to say, dressing nicely, and having my dogs has certainly helped alot when trying to recover and cope with a chronic condition. They bring unconditional joy to my life, and making an effort to look nice, even if it is us going out for 2 1/2 hours for some wine, makes me feel a bit better too.  But illness or not, those of you with pets know what I am talking about!

Nevertheless, I wanted to wear more fall shades today, and I do have a fair amount of fall clothes to spring, but when you come from PA, Pittsburgh, originally there has to be lots of sweaters and layers to keep me warm! So, here in Charlotte, I can get away without wearing a coat yet, in November, but love the pairing of brown tones with teal. It is similar to the colors in our house, we have a room with browns and blues and I always loved the combination. As someone fair skinned, I wanted to wear the teal, close to my face, for added bright color, but pair it with the velvet sable colored cropped jacket

Looking forward to the weekend,

Enjoy the rest of your week!

I love this outfit Jess! You have so many clothes! I love the various texture and details like the pleats on your skirt and the neckline of your top. Such a lovely colour combination too.

Hi Lorna! Thank you. I have a fair amount, but not one of those big walk in closets. I try to buy key pieces I will continue to wear throughout the years. This is the one blue I gravitate to, teal.( in re: to your last post :-)) See you tomorrow and enjoy your week! xx

Gorgeous outfit Jess, love the pleated skirt and velvet blazer! Very rich and on point. I know how you feel about chronic illness and dogs, and I agree with both! Empathize with both. It does help to dress up even if you are doing rather mundane things.. Then the mirror tells you, you are well!

Jess, you look fabulous as ever. The soft velvet is so flattering and works well with the pleated skirt; such a clever pairing. The shot of the purse shows up all the details and I do like the arty shot of the sun behind you too. My husband would be hopeless at taking my photos, but there again seems to be working whenever I need him. Your husband does a great job getting all these perfect close-ups, the earring, for example is spot on (yet another good english phrase for you!)
I’m sorry to hear your are suffering with symptoms of your illness, and can only say you are a shining example of how to put a brave face on things.

Pets can bring such joy into our lives. When our cat Treacle was alive she would always be there ready to welcome us when we stepped through the door. Two years on I still think some days she’ll be there when I come home!
I’m sorry to hear about your illness is hard at the moment Jess. It’s not easy living with a chronic condition and I’m always so inspired by what you do and the grace with which you bear it.
Brown and teal are such a lovely combination. I love the play of textures of velvet and faux leather and the soft drape of the blouse. Those shoes are so chic especially with the bows on them – lovely detail. They have quite a 60s feel to them – quite retro!

Aww, Treacle. Sounds so nice! I understand how you can continue to think of her. I do love how excited they get no matter if I am gone for 1 hour or 4! they do bring me happiness and joy. I dont want to bring up my condition too frequently on the blog, but this has been a rough patch, these 2 months, just ready to be done with it and enjoy the fall days. I apprecaite what you said. Thank you and I am glad you lke the outfit, the shoes are vintage, one of the reasons I love them! xx

I really like the teal and brown together and it’s a nice mix of textures in your outfit! 🙂

I know when I’m not feeling well putting a bit of effort into an outfit can sometimes make me feel better, make me feel more ‘me’, so I’m glad you are able to do that while battling illness. And of course, cute pets help too!

    I agree wholeheartedly Jess!
Jake is currently “helping” type this post…causing lots of mistakes and rewrites. Naughty scamp thinks my hands should be stroking him not the keys!
Our furry friends certainly bring unconditional love….I would also recommend a dog to anyone with teenagers…
At least someone will be pleased to see you!!

As for your outfit…Sable is such a rich and delicious name for a colour…I must remember these beautiful words.
Your skirt is the style I wish I could wear but looks dreadful on me! I am admiring it on your stunning figure and thinking how perfectly it suits your slim hips and showcases your beautiful legs.
Your bag really is the chameleon of all accessories, what a great buy that was!
I admire it every time you use it.

Haha! Have I seen Jake? Gibson is my boy,and he love attention at all times. He has his spot he resides each night, so structured but such a loving dog. I think he really thinks he is person!
I dont have kids but I am sure others with teenagers would chime in .. so true, no matter what you do. Or how you are feeling they are there! I am waiting to spoil both of them rotten when SantaPaws arrives
I am glad we can exchange words now and then, as I love hearing terms or phrases from other countries… ( my post on brilliant an example!)Are you sure, I am betting you could wear this skirt, but thank you for saying so. Thanks to about the lip, I wasnt so sure. You are always so sweet, thank you for commenting and enjoy the weekend. xx
