How is the Self-Care Going at Home? + New Beauty Products I Enjoy

Hi friends

I do thank the Lord for this blog and the wonderful people I “meet” because of it. Certainly in these times, it helps to have that support and communication, as well as having a purpose. Self-care has been a popular term for a while, and I’d like to know, how are you doing with self-care in this situation?

SELF-CARE

Some of the things we don’t consider are things we are now thinking about. It isn’t the end of the world if your hair doesn’t get colored or cut, but what about other things we do for ourselves, our own self-care. How is that going?

My friend and hairstylist emailed me and said that she could mix my color at her home and write out instructions for me, dropping it in my mailbox. Now that is nice. I really don’t need it until May at some point as the grey comes in, and like everyone, forgo a haircut.

I am taking several Epsom salt bubble baths a day, in part to relax as well as to help provide pain relief. As you know, I count on my Dry Needling session every other week to help lower my pain levels. Since I don’t have that, I have to find other ways to help with muscle pain.

I am keeping moving which is very important for our own sanity, well being and self- care. I am trying to incorporate more weight training to strengthen my muscles. This can result in fewer trigger points. I’ve been walking 2-3 miles with the pups and hubby each day and if it rains, I workout at home on my treadmill. Not only does it help with keeping healthy, but when I workout I can a much better night’s sleep.

Mentally, since we aren’t socializing in a traditional sense, we have to do it otherways. Texting, using social media can be helpful at this time to keep in touch with others. I talk to my siblings via text, my Mom via the phone, and hope to set up some video chats soon. If you are struggling It really is so important to have the support and encouragement of family at this time. I know a few friends are using Zoom or Skype for face to face calls. I had to laugh as the Today show asked of its interviewee’s question of the day, ” Are you wearing pants?” Business up top and sweatpants on the bottom right?

I typically drink 80 oz or more of water a day. I have a water bottle that  keeps cold for 24 hours and I  keep it on my nightstand. I have a healthy diet of grains, fruits, and veggies, cereals, dairy. I will have snacks here and there – who can resist ice cream? It really is important to eat enough protein for energy and get enough sleep in order to feel your best throughout the day.

I read about the value of red wine , and enjoy a glass while sitting on a porch or patio. Getting some sun and fresh air helps the psyche too! It is so important to find things to laugh or smile about. Not only being good medicine, it is good for your mind as well! Find a funny sitcom or a movie that can take your mind away a bit. It is easy to get bogged down with the heaviness of this Situation, but try to find something upbeat to watch. Did you ever watch “Catastrophe” or “Fleabag” on Netflix and Amazon? Both very funny shows!

Cruelty-Free Makeup and Natural Skin Care

Today I am sharing a few companies I have been collaborating with and enjoy. Try a new lipstick, perhaps a new moisturizer or serum. It may not change the world, but it can be a part of your self-care routine and make you feel a bit better. That is worth it!

REALHER

An empowering brand, REALHER sent me this wonderful makeup bag of goodies before the Caronavirus started. A makeup bag with positive messages, they included some of their Spring line products for me to try. I wrote a bit about this brand HERE.

This makeup is cruelty-free and vegan. I love these products and use them daily.

I was sent this makeup bag with these products. c/o gifted. The opinions are mine and truthful.

Eye Am Beautiful Mascara

Do Your Squats Eyeshadow pallete ( browns)

GRAYDON SKINCARE-PLANT BASED SKINCARE

An all-natural skin care line, Graydon has sent me products to try. It is important to keep up with our grooming and skin care, taking care of ourselves as we would any other time. I love the clean freshness of the products and the all-natural ingredients.

IGraydon sent me t

From the website.

“The  minimalist, luxurious brand of high-performance skincare where you’ll find all your favourite actives like botanical retinol, collagen, peptides, hyaluronic acid, probiotics, niacinamide, vitamin C, and even gemstone crystals.

Graydon Skincare will give you and your skin the very best, most effective plant-based ingredients available, leaving you looking and feeling healthy, happy and beautiful.”

Do see the vegan line of skincare products

I’ve really been enjoying trying these products. I am currently trying the plant based retinol Green Cream. I just received this but love the feel of the product. “Infused with two plant-based retinols, our nourishing superfood-packed cream has a light, gel-like texture to gently clear congested skin, help alleviate the appearance of acne scars, restore bounce, and reveal smoother brighter skin.”

I have written about Graydon serums here – Graydon-Natural Beauty Products

I love that the products are also cruelty-free and are free of these ingredients.” SLS, sulphates, parabens, synthetic fragrances, petroleum, etc.’ I can feel good about what I’m putting on my skin.

I use this  Face Foam each morning and love that it is gentle on my face and works into a nice lather.

These are the products I have tried. Also received the Retinol Green cream I am trying now.  c/oI was gifted these skin care products. My opinion is honest and truthful.

Check out the Graydon line for your Face HERE.

Even though we are not celebrating Easter in the traditional sense, we can still be thankful and count our blessings.

HAVE A BLESSED EASTER WEEKEND,

Thanks for sharing your fave products and your self care routine with us, Jess! We have been starting our days with a 30 days of yoga challenge and we love it, but I really need to spend some time outside. But it is just too cold for me still. It is only in the 20’s today with snow flurries and I am freezing! Thanks for linking up with me, my friend.

That’s so nice of your hair stylist to mix the dye for you. My mum is more concerned about her hair than anything else right now! I’ve had to look online for a suitable home dye alternative for her…I’ve already had some delivered to my mother in law too! The Realher palette looks fab, I love the shades! Hope you’re having a great Easter weekend 🙂

Jess, I am sorry to hear that you have had to miss your much needed therapy. I never really thought about how people might be affected in that regard that get regular therapies. It is hard to not fall into a slump, so for me, definitely getting outside, taking a walk or just working around the yard is good. I am also back to keeping track with My Fitness Pal of calories. It makes me more accountable in what I eat, otherwise I tend to snack and eat lots of things that aren’t good for me. I try to drink 100 oz of water a day. I don’t always get there, but at least its close. I’m also trying to keep the blog going as per normal and I think that helps me to, as I know it gives others a boost during the week. Thanks so much for sharing. I appreciate all you do. Have a beautiful Easter weekend. – Amy

Oh, my, your friend/hairdresser dropping off hair coloring, now that is nice! Haha, I guess I picked the right time to go gray! The eyeshadow palette looks really nice. I’m glad you’ve found things to self-care that help you. I’m kind of neglectful in that regard. I get fresh air and sunshine when I can, but don’t do much walking with my problematic knees.

I have no idea what I’ll do with my hair now that I added low lights last time! Ugh! I may have to wear a hat! The new make up products look great, love that eyeshadow palette!

It will be interesting when I try and do my own hair, but I may take her up on her dropping it off for me, otherwise, I will be grey or white by the time this is over. I love that too. I have the other palette by them that is alot of purples and this with browns, I am set with my eyeshadows! Happy Easter!

Hi Jess, re your muscle pain, in the absence of being able to have dry needling sessions (which I also swear by!), would a “massage mat” (“Shakti Mat” help you?
Some Shakti mats come with a “pillow” as well)
Alternatively, a spiky ball – as used in mat Pilates. Both of these are available online.
    Kind regards
    Heather

      Hi HEather
Thank you so much for your suggestions. In all of 7 years I haven’t missed an appt every 2 weeks, so I am missing it now. I looked up the Shakti Mat, boy, that would take some getting used to! I have a jacknobber and a cupping kit, and hubby is working on me with those.
