How We Style Gingham- Mustard Yellow Gingham Blouse and Denim Skirt

Today my friend, Kellyann,  This Blonde Shopping Bag,  and I are stying Gingham looks. Gingham is one of those prints that just is so classic, it doesn’t go out of style. If you missed some of my shopping picks and previous gingham looks, read Friday’s post-Gingham Picks for Spring.

We decided to each style our own outfits and include Gingham in the looks. It really is fun when you can collaborate with another blogger friend and share your inspiration. So go visit her blog too, I ‘ve been very fortunate to get to know her this year.

I bought this top from Mango ( yes, most things I am buying are from there) as I loved the fuller sleeves and subdued mustard yellow gingham print, a bit different from the traditional navy blue or red gingham.

Truffy is photobombing! 🙂

If my hubby had kept shooting, we would have had a parade of photobombers! It seems “our spot” is getting more and more popular. I expected a VW bug to roll up at the entrance of the bridge and the inevitable clown car empty with people of varying heights. The parade would continue with teenagers, bikes and other dog walkers.

What can you do? You just have to be patient and take the shots when you can. My little fur bears joined us as we often go out for lunch or drinks after the photoshoot. The “ball and chain” leashes make me laugh, as they stand like doggie statues not moving when its on them. They really can walk around! I do think, Gibson and Truffles were happy to see the sun and get outside for a breezy, easy afternoon.

My Outfit

I just couldn’t resist the soft muted mustard yellow gingham pattern on this button down blouse, along with the puffier sleeves. It was paired with a pair of high waisted cream pants and straw belt on the Mango website, but you can certainly wear it many ways. Today I styled it with my favorite jean skirt, bought last year at Loft.

My jewelry completes the look with rattan circular earrings and a gold disc necklace that was gifted to my a few yrs ago by Slyca Designs. Although I have quite a few pairs of spring shoes, my favorite gold flecked espadrilles seemed fitting for this look.

Some History of Gingham*

** credit Wikipedia**

When originally imported into Europe in the 17th century, gingham was a striped fabric, though now it is distinguished by its checkered pattern. From the mid-18th century, when it was being produced in the mills of Manchester, England, it started to be woven into checked or plaid patterns (often blue and white).

Thank you Tracey! I saw this shirt when it first came out and the style and mustard color, not the typical gingham shade really appealed to me. Have fun with your friends! xx

Thank you for the lesson on gingham. This outfit is so darn cute. You are ready for Summer, for sure. =) I always love blue denim paired with yellow and mustard. As a matter of fact on my post today I styled almost an identical button-front denim skirt by Loft with a pop of mustard yellow and a pretty blouse too. Come check it out! Oh and I love the espadrilles and necklace, my friend.

I love that blouse on you Jess! Of course I love that it’s gingham but even more than that I love the cute and style – so pretty and of course elegant – so you! Your denim skirt is so cute too almost as cute as your photobomber! I am glad we did this together and hope we can do it again some time.
