26 Aug Niece Photo Shoot before Back to School and a Labor Day look
Hi friends!
How was your weekend?
Soon school will be in session, if it isn’t already, and my niece will be headed back to class. I thought it would be fun to share one last photoshoot with her for a while, as we enjoy being together and sharing our love of fashion.
My Niece and I /Outfit
If you missed some of my fun fashion posts with my niece Makiala, who is going into 4th grade this year, have a read from these posts:
Karina Dresses- Mommy Me and Aunt
I mentioned before that my “uniform” here in the South, during the summer is blue/white jean shorts and dresses for the most part. It’s still summer and will be for a while yet. I saw this red floral blousy top On SALE! and love a dressier halter. It is one that in cooler months I can pair under a blazer or jacket. I love a rich red and wanted to make red pop with this look wearing my Jambu gladiators and my square-shaped beaded earrings from Amazon. This outfit worked well for upcoming Labor Day too!
We spent the afternoon together and I love that my niece finds some of the simplest things we do entertaining. I think it is a matter of perspective. I do love being at home, but since I also “work from home” after a few days I am ready to get out of the house. We did this photoshoot at Blythe Landing a boat landing near our house, looking for a shaded, wooded spot. Kathy, our neighbor recommended this spot and that a cool Eagle statue. “The Eagle Has Landed”! Kind of apropos since there are many Apollo 11 events happening as of recent.
We then ran errands at Target, where my niece and my “mission” ( like that segway?) was to browse the women’s and teen department while meeting up with hubby for the remainder of the grocery shopping. I tried on a leopard pencil dress, a long cardi in ( pumpkin) and another snakeskin dress with flutter sleeves. I don’t have pictures, but I did love the leopard dress. I didn’t buy it because I purchased one from Mango that was similar. Finding shopping and running photoshoots entertaining, my niece enjoys just spending time with us, and vice versa! I bought her a back to school sweatshirt in steel blue, which stated, ” Being Kind is Cool”. I thought, what a great message!
I also learned some of the rules for the kids going back to school. Dresses/shorts must be fingertip length ( if you hold your arm at your sides, the length must end at fingertips)., no crazy hair ( I took that to mean, disruptive?) she wants aqua tips ( which are allowed).. I didn’t have to worry about clothing rules in school until high school, as I went to a Catholic School up until then and we had a plaid jumper uniform.
Any age can wear shorts. I always poo-poo the rules saying women “of a certain age” shouldn’t wear this or that. It is a matter of what makes you feel good. Confidence.
There are many lengths to shorts these days as well, so from 4″ shorts like these denim shorts I am wearing from Loft, to more Bermuda styled length shorts and everything in between. The paper bag waist shorts that came out this year are fun and fashionable and give a bit more dressy vibe than some. These denim shorts and these are On SALE at Loft now. These Bermuda jean shorts are on sale as well.
I could wear this halter into Fall, with a smart, structured jacket in red or black, along with some dark denim and booties. I begin to think of ways I can transition dresses or outfits for Fall, even though it won’t get very cool here until the end of Oct, beginning of November, but we can make small changes if we get impatient for the season.
Hubby got into the act. My “photographer” is usually behind the camera, so i took this one. 🙂 Look at hubby in his Cole Haan sneakers and gingham shirt. Stylish huh? 🙂
Bought these red statement earrings on Amazon
Any Labor Day look you are planning? Do you have a niece or other family member that loves Fashion?
Have a wonderful day!
