Welcome to My Second Installment of “Spotlight On” Over 40 Fashion. My interview today is with a fellow blogger friend, Dawn of Fashion Should Be Fun.
If one looks at any picture of designer Karl Lagerfiled, one might have to ask the question, “Is Fashion Fun”? or “Why isn’t he having fun with fashion?”, although people exude fun and excitement in different ways, that would be my question to him! Let’s explore how Dawn has fun with fashion!

I asked Dawn these questions about her interest in Fashion.

Tell me how you came up with the name of your blog, “Fashion Should Be Fun”, do you find fashion to be too serious?

1. Haha .. that’s a good question.  Yeah, I guess I just really think that if you’re not having fun with fashion then you’re just not doing it right! I know I’m having tons of fun and I want to share that joy with my friends and readers.

When did you first become interested in fashion and style?

Even as a little girl, I loved dressing up. I’m sure I got this from my mom, who always loved clothing and shopping.

3. Is there any over 40 fashion rule or style ( i.e. women at 40 should not wear mini skirts) that you don’t agree with? explain.

In my opinion, everyone is so different that it’s too hard to make universal rules.  I think we should all wear what feels right for us personally.

4. Tell the readers something they do not know about you that may surprise them.

I’ve been sober for over 14 years!

5 If you had to pack only one casual outfit and one dressy outfit for a trip, what would you bring?

For a trip … hmm …. comfortable shoes for walking  … with jeans, a cute top, and a cardigan.  And a big tote bag for souvenir shopping! For dressing up, I’d bring along a LBD with sexy heels and some bling.

6. Did you have a defining moment in your life, where your style changed?

My style has gone through so many changes and transitions, but the latest change was when I started blogging. Having an outlet to share ideas and inspiration with other bloggers has definitely enhanced my style.

7. What is something that you are more willing to splurge or invest in?

I invest in coats and jackets, and handbags.  These are items that tend to stay in my closet longer than anything else.

8. What does “dressing down” mean for you?

Jeans … I love my denim .. and sneakers or flip flops … and a tee.

How has your style changed throughout the years?

Again, so many transitions!  I’ve gone through a rocker stage, a goth stage … oh, don’t even get me started!  😉  Let’s just say that one of these days I need to dig out old pictures and do a DawnLucy-though-the-ages blog post for the entertainment of my readers!

10. Do you think fashion has changed for women over 40?

I think more brands are catering to the over 40 women and it’s about gosh-darn time.

11. What colors do you find to be the most flattering on you?

Hmm … it’s easier to tell you what I don’t look good in.  I look washed out in pastels and downright sickly in rust and yellow. I think I like myself in best in charcoal grey, teal and red.

12.Are you a handbag or a shoe girl? What do you think the fascination is with women and shoes?

I love both! My theory is that women love bags and shoes because we can shop for them without worrying if we’ve gained weight!

13 Give the readers one skin care tip you care to divulge.

Sunscreen everyday!

White and White denim is a big trend this spring and Dawn looks fresh and beach ready with this neutral tote, and the pairing of grey and white.
